Despite what the left claims, the 2022 Elections were not big wins for Democrats. They staved off a “red wave” in some places, yes, but there is a lot for liberals to be worried about. Red states are growing redder, not bluer. Democrats pulled out key victories, mostly due to mail-in ballots and ballot harvesting–a scheme Republicans are already adopting (and have used to win big in California).
And there is another sea-change happening that could spell doom for the Democratic Party. A shift has been taking place among a key voting demographic. We’ve been watching the shift since 2008. It’s something nobody was expecting. And by 2024, Democrats might be in very big trouble.
From The Post Millennial:
Recent polls show that younger voters, a demographic whose favor is chased by Democrat political candidates, have grown less liberal over the last five years…
“Younger voters are 13 points LESS liberal than they were just 5 years ago according to Morning Consult. There are massive cultural and institutional headwinds, but younger voters are trending right over a period of time, despite what the media tells you.”
There appears to be a shift in how young Americans are voting. In 2008, voters under the age of 30 voted for Obama by 34 points. But by 2022 those same voters picked Democrats by only 4 points.
Among voters 18-29 years old this year, they voted for Democrats by 28 points. That is actually a drop of 6 points from 2008. And voters 18-24 years old were 4% less likely to vote for Democrats than 25-29 year-olds this year.
Morning Consult revealed that the number of young voters that consider themselves as “very liberal” or even “somewhat liberal” has dropped from 34 percent to 27 percent–a seven-point drop.
These might not sound like big gains, right now. But the trend since 2008 has not been good for Democrats. Young voters who elected Obama back then are now split 50/50 today. And the up-and-coming group of voters is less likely to back a Democratic candidate.
This is a group that grew up under Obama–with Michelle Obama taking away their good student lunches. A group that had the Internet at their fingertips, and was fact-checking the bogus claims of their liberal teachers. And a group that isn’t very likely to believe what CNN or MSNBC tells them.
It shouldn’t come as a surprise that more of these voters are getting sick and tired of the left’s empty promises. Republicans are making “serious gains” with younger voters, according to those who study these things. Democrats seem to be losing this group with each passing year.
- Voters under 30 are less liberal than they were 5 years ago.
- Since 2008, more young voters are shifting away from Democrats.
- Voters between 18-24 years moved closer to the right in 2022.
