The SNAP (food stamps) program is pretty messed up. But nobody had any idea just how bad it really was until now.

It’s a running joke that government agencies are incompetent.

But unfortunately, many times, it’s not a joke.

You’ve heard business owners start frustrated sentences with, “If I ran my business the way our leaders run this country…”

Well, when the U.S. Department of Agriculture loses $4 billion in what they’re calling “improper food stamp payments,” you can understand why taxpayers are upset.

That’s right, a stunning new report proves that some people receiving benefits through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), got a LOT more than they should’ve.

To be exact: over $4 billion of the over $63.6 billion the USDA spent on SNAP in fiscal year 2017 was just plain wrong.

Now, it’s true that this number includes both underpayments and overpayments but the point is, this is a colossal mistake that cost this nation a ridiculous sum of money.

And why? Because of “human error,” apparently, as confirmed by Deputy Under Secretary for Food, Nutrition, and Consumer Services Brandon Lipps.

This means that state agencies miscalculated benefits or benefit recipients gave the agencies incorrect information (either accidentally or on purpose).

If you’re wondering, the states with the highest screw-up rate in terms of payments are:

Delaware (13.95 percent), Rhode Island (11.24 percent), and Michigan (11.13 percent).

The USDA says such states are a “liability” and should have to “owe money to the federal government.”

Darn right they should! We’re talking about billions of taxpayer dollars all because of “human error,” as well as the general incompetency of state and government agencies.

I think it’s high time we get some new employees working in these jobs. Because evidently, who we have now just doesn’t cut the mustard…

And it’s costing the average hard-working citizen far, far too much.
