The last month has been hectic for Republican candidate Herschel Walker. In his battle with Democrat Sen. Raphael Warnock, we’ve seen poll swings and alleged scandals that grabbed headlines.
Now, with just about 8 days to go before voting kicks off, the latest poll could indicate a stunning comeback.
As of right now, Walker actually holds a lead over Warnock — and the Democrat was leading by a lot at the end of the summer.
In fact, as late as October 14, Sen. Warnock held over a 3-point advantage according to certain polls. And just over two weeks later, we find that Walker has hit an unexpected surge in Georgia.
While some surveys have already shown Walker in the lead, there has been conflicting survey reports. Last week, it wasn’t difficult to find a poll that still favored Warnock.
However, Republicans are looking to make a last-minute push in many close races around the nation, in order to secure the House and possibly the Senate.
Via Washington Examiner:
Former football star Herschel Walker (R-GA) has pulled ahead of incumbent Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-GA) in the polls in the Georgia Senate race in the time since the two debated more than two weeks ago.
Walker currently leads Warnock in the Real Clear Politics polling average by 1.4 percentage points, a massive swing compared with the 3.3 percentage point lead Warnock held on Oct. 14, when the two debated in Savannah, Georgia.
So far, in looking at the six major polls, Walker leads three of them and is tied with Warnock in another.
The Republican candidate has had to deal with a rash of accusations concerning women who claim he pressured them to get abortions. Walker has denied all these allegations, and has still managed to surge.
Warnock’s campaign opted to tap former President Barack Obama, in an attempt to stop Walker’s upward climb.
That plan might not have worked, though, if these latest polls are accurate. There are also reports that some Democrats don’t believe Obama can help them turn the “red wave” aside before voting begins.
As for the Walker/Warnock race, it’s probably correct to say it’s a toss-up at this point.
Even so, given that Warnock once held double-digit leads in the summer according to most surveys, Walker’s forward momentum in the past few months has been impressive.
And if he can pull off an upset, that would go a long way toward giving Republicans the edge in the Senate.
- GOP candidate Herschel Walker has pulled ahead of Democrat Sen. Raphael Warnock, according to the latest poll.
- Warnock once held a large lead but it has since evaporated, and now Walker holds a slight lead.
- If Walker can squeak out a victory, that would be a huge win for the GOP in their bid to retake the Senate.
