She was one of the most vocal and recognizable of Donald Trump’s campaign staff during his tenure, and now she wants to dive into the political spectrum.
Sarah Huckabee Sanders was Trump’s White House Press Secretary for the majority of her term. She was also an outspoken critic of Democrats and an avid supporter of conservative values.
However, some thought she might disappear from the public eye after resigning.
And in fact, we hadn’t heard a lot from Sanders in recent months — until now. She won’t be returning to Washington to work with the Biden administration; instead, she has plans of her own.
If she’s successful, she might one day return to D.C. in a very different position:
Sanders has announced that she is running for Governor of Arkansas.
As she stated (via CNN):
With the radical left now in charge of Washington, your governor is your last line of defense.
In fact, your governor must be on the front line. So today, I announce my candidacy for governor of Arkansas.

In this lengthy announcement video, Sanders says that violence has spread throughout the country, but “this is not who we are as Americans. To remain free, we must have law and order.”
Of course, Sanders might have a leg up on the competition, and not merely because of her stint at the White House.
She is also the daughter of former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, so her family name certainly carries some weight. That being said, Sanders will probably face some primary challengers.
Multiple Republicans have already stepped up to run in Arkansas, so the predominantly red state will have several options for Governor.
Even so, the former Press Secretary is an “early favorite” according to a CNN source familiar with the situation.
The current Governor, Asa Hutchinson, is term limited, and the office is expected to remain in Republican control. The state has almost exclusively voted red for quite a while.
As more evidence, President Trump easily won Arkansas with 62 percent of the vote last November, so if Sanders can defeat her primary challengers she has an excellent shot at being Governor.
Lastly, she can certainly count on the support of her former boss.
As Trump tweeted when Sanders left the White House:
She is a very special person with extraordinary talents, who has done an incredible job.
I hope she decides to run for Governor of Arkansas—she would be fantastic.
Sanders is already acquiring plenty of support from Republicans in the state, and it’ll be interesting to see how she fares as Governor — provided she does indeed score a victory.

- Though she will likely face Republican challengers, she is the early favorite.
- Former President Donald Trump said when Sanders left that it’d be “fantastic” if she ran for Governor.
