America’s southern border has been a battleground for decades. Drug cartels, human traffickers, and criminals have exploited weaknesses in our defenses, flooding our communities with dangerous substances and violence. The difference between tough policies and weak enforcement couldn’t be clearer.
When strong leadership takes command, we see immediate results. The men and women protecting our borders need proper support and authority to do their jobs effectively. Recent developments show exactly what happens when we take border security seriously.
Border Patrol agents have seized an astonishing $25 million worth of cocaine in just one week, preventing the dangerous narcotics from reaching American streets.
This massive haul demonstrates the effectiveness of enhanced border security measures implemented under the Trump administration.
From ‘Breitbart’:
Border Patrol agents and their law enforcement partners have managed to seize and prevent more than $25 million in cocaine from reaching the interior of the United States during the past seven days. The latest seizure, which occurred on Thursday near San Clemente, California, was nabbed after a Border Patrol K-9 unit sniffed out the illicit substance hidden in trash bags located in the trunk of a vehicle.
The successful operations included multiple major drug busts. In the Rio Grande Valley Sector alone, agents seized nearly 560 pounds of cocaine with an estimated street value of $18 million in just three separate events on February 23.
Two seizures occurred at fixed highway checkpoints during routine immigration inspections, while the third resulted from a roving patrol stop.
Chief Michael W. Banks of the Border Patrol highlighted Thursday’s seizure in San Clemente, where a K-9 unit discovered 47.5 pounds of cocaine hidden in trash bags in a vehicle’s trunk. The drugs and two suspects were turned over to the DEA for state prosecution.
Trump Administration Takes Strong Action
These significant seizures follow decisive actions taken by the Trump administration against Mexican drug cartels. On February 19, the administration designated several major Mexican drug cartels as Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTO), including six Mexican cartels, the Mara Salvatrucha gang of El Salvador, and the Venezuelan Tren De Aragua gang.
The administration has also deployed military “Reaper” drones to surveil cartel activities inside Mexican airspace. When questioned about these drone operations, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum didn’t deny their existence. Imagine that! She simply stated these were not new agreements but part of ongoing collaboration against the cartels.
Mexican Cooperation Yields Results
The fight against drug cartels isn’t limited to American efforts. Mexican authorities have also stepped up their operations as part of Operación Frontera Norte (Operation Northern Border), which involves the deployment of Mexican military forces along the U.S. border.
According to the El Paso Times, Mexican police and military forces recently arrested three men and seized more than 58 pounds of cocaine in Juárez. The cocaine was found in 25 brick-shaped packages hidden in a Honda CRV during a traffic stop in the Reforma neighborhood.
In another significant operation, Mexican authorities seized a ton-and-a-half of marijuana (1,714 kilos) contained in 129 sacks. This seizure was conducted by state police, soldiers from the 35th Infantry Battalion, and the National Guard near El Willy mass gravesite in the Casas Grandes region.
The Mexican Senate has also approved a plan allowing U.S. Army Green Berets to enter Mexico at Campeche to train Mexican Marines. This further strengthens cross-border cooperation in the fight against cartels. Amazing what happens when both countries actually decide to enforce their laws!
Cartel History Shows Ongoing Threat
The scale and sophistication of cartel operations cannot be underestimated. A recent ICE report detailed how former Gulf Cartel leader Osiel Cardenas-Guillen oversaw a vast drug trafficking empire that imported thousands of kilograms of cocaine and marijuana into the United States.
Drug ledgers seized in Atlanta revealed that the Gulf Cartel generated more than $41 million in drug proceeds over just a three-and-a-half month period in the Atlanta area alone. This demonstrates the enormous financial resources these criminal organizations command.
The recent uptick in seizures may indicate that cartels are attempting to reduce inventory held in Mexico. They’re anticipating further enforcement actions by the Trump administration. This strategic shift suggests that strong border policies are having their intended deterrent effect.
The message is clear: America is no longer a soft target for drug traffickers. When we enforce our laws and secure our borders, we protect our communities and save American lives.
