Throughout the primary season, we’ve seen the GOP divided over Trump. Many top leaders, especially those in Congress, have endorsed the former president.
But Trump has not shied away from thrashing Republicans he believes are wolves in sheep’s clothing.
One particular rising star in the GOP, Trump has previously praised. In fact, people thought he’d pick him to be his VP — but now, Trump is turning on the man and exposing what he did to “trick” Americans.
From Daily Wire:
Former President Donald Trump unloaded on GOP primary competitor Vivek Ramaswamy ahead of the Iowa Caucuses on Monday…“Vivek started his campaign as a great supporter, ‘the best President in generations,’ etc.,” Trump wrote. “Unfortunately, now all he does is disguise his support in the form of deceitful campaign tricks. Very sly, but a vote for Vivek is a vote for the ‘other side’ — don’t get duped by this.”
Donald Trump criticized GOP candidate for president Vivek Ramaswamy in a post to TRUTH Social. Trump said Vivek had once been a “great supporter.” But now, Trump claims he is using “deceitful campaign tricks” to “disguise his support.”
It’s unclear whom Trump thinks Vivek is supporting. But he said a vote for Ramaswamy is a “vote for the ‘other side;” he might have been referring to Democrats. Trump went on to warn Republicans that Vivek is not “MAGA” despite what the candidate claims.
Vivek Ramaswamy was a relatively unknown figure, before shooting up in the primary polls. He is a Silicon Valley businessman, who was known as the “anti-Woke CEO.” Vivek got national attention with his outsider status and strong opinions, mirroring Trump.
Trump has previously said good things about the Republican. And rumors swirled that Vivek was positioning himself to become Trump’s running mate.
It is unknown why Trump changed his mind on Vivek. There appears to be nothing about Ramaswamy’s campaign promises that suggests he is tricking voters or has progressive policy goals.
But Trump’s condemnation of the man is strong evidence that the two do not have plans to work together in the future. Should Trump win the nomination, it is unlikely Vivek will be his running mate.
Key Takeaways:
- Trump called out Vivek Ramaswamy on his social media.
- He claimed Vivek was trying to trick voters to “disguise his support.”
- Previously, the former president praised the candidate.
