From the minute Joe Biden took office, Republicans were wondering how much he’d be influenced by his cabinet. Some claim that people like Vice President Kamala Harris are really running the show.
Democrats maintain that Biden is in full control, but that hasn’t stopped right-wing leaders from wondering: is it possible that someone else has been pulling some strings behind the scenes?
Well, according to one former Trump official, the answer is “yes.”
Former acting director of National Intelligence Richard Grenell believes that in fact, there is a “shadow president” in the White House. But it isn’t VP Harris.
It’s actually someone that doesn’t get a lot of press these days, and hasn’t been especially vocal about any particular subject. In general, her name doesn’t often appear in the press.
However, it’s a name everyone should recognize, because she was a high-ranking member of Barack Obama’s administration.
And in that time, she was definitely in the limelight more often, and acquired a lot of critics on the Republican side of the aisle. Which is why a lot of them won’t like what Grenell has to say.
From Fox News:
Richard Grenell, the former acting director of National Intelligence under President Trump, said in an interview with CPAC that he believes Susan Rice has assumed the role of a ‘shadow president.’
Rice was Obama’s national security adviser, and Biden hired her to take charge of the White House Domestic Policy Council.
Some might see this as a step down. But Grenell believes that Rice is “exerting her influence” in this new role, and Biden is simply incapable of stopping the progressive train.
He also suggested that Harris doesn’t have much of an impact at all:
Biden is too weak to stop the progressive left from taking over… [Vice President] Kamala [Harris] does not understand what’s going on…
We have a shadow president in Susan Rice and no one is paying attention.
Rice is just one of several Obama officials that stayed on when Biden was elected. And Republicans have often wondered how much influence those Obama staffers have on the new administration.
It’s notable that Rice happens to be one of the richest people in the White House, with a net worth of around $37.9 million (according to the Wall Street Journal).
And she might just have plenty of pull right now.
Grenell also indicated that Rice’s expertise is foreign policy and not domestic policy, and was quoted as saying that she’d treat our domestic policy like foreign policy. And maybe that’s what she’s doing.
But above all else, Grenell says that Biden’s desperate attempts to cater to the far-left isn’t working. It’s just “leading to more headaches.”
If Rice really is calling the shots in Capitol Hill (or some of the shots), this is bound to rile Republican leaders. It’s also not good news for those who already had a problem with Rice.
- Former Trump staffer Richard Grenell believes there’s a “shadow president” in Biden’s White House.
- He says it isn’t VP Kamala Harris, but Obama holdover Susan Rice. She’s now in charge of Biden’s Domestic Policy Council.
- Grenell called out Rice previously, saying she’s not a domestic policy expert.
