Trump Issues Sudden Request in Court, and Here Was the Judge’s Response

Despite what much of the media says, many Americans believe the lawsuits against Trump are “lawfare.” Democrats are pushing prosecutions to derail Trump’s campaign, it appears. The most recent one, out of New York, resulted in a shocking guilty verdict.

But the damage is still ongoing. The judge over that case, who fact-checkers found out donated to Joe Biden, kept a gag order in place.

Even though the trial is over, the judge is continuing to meddle in Trump’s campaign; in fact, he has banned the former president’s ability to speak about the case. In reply, Trump’s lawyers turned to the New York Court of Appeals to have the order lifted. This is how they ruled.

From Fox News:
The New York Court of Appeals on Tuesday rejected former President Trump’s bid to have the gag order against him lifted, citing that “no substantial constitutional question is directly involved.” …

Trump’s lawyers cited the November presidential election and the first debate against President Biden later this month, as well as the First Amendment rights of the former president and his supporters as reasons for the order to be lifted…

“The Gag Order wrongfully silences the leading candidate for President of the United States, President Trump, at the height of his campaign. The Gag Order applies only to President Trump and not to any of his political opponents, critics, or even Crooked Joe Biden,” said Cheung.

An appeals court in New York refused to lift Judge Merchan’s gag order against Trump. The blue state court claimed, “no substantial constitutional question is directly involved.” Millions of Americans will disagree, however. Donald Trump is running for president—yet he is banned from commenting on a criminal trial launched by Democrats to derail his candidacy.

It sounds to some as if there’s a substantial constitutional question at hand. But unsurprisingly, few people expected the court to rule in his favor. New York’s court system is littered with politicians and lawmakers who side with the Democratic Party, and many times elected Democrats are responsible for these judges’ appointments.

Ultimately, it might take the Supreme Court to sort through this mess. Trump is also appealing the guilty verdict, and many legal experts claim the state courts will not overturn the ruling, forcing Trump to take this issue to federal courts.

Americans have accused Democrats of trying to undermine the election with these trials. After calling Republicans “threats to democracy” for years, it seems Democrats are the ones engaging in activity that could rob Americans of their right to vote.

Key Takeaways:

  • The New York Court of Appeals refused to lift a gag order against Donald Trump.
  • The liberal court claimed there was no “substantial constitutional” issue at hand.
  • Trump’s lawyers claimed this gag order violates the presidential candidate’s rights.
