What’s Happening:
After 18 months of prime-time hearings, wild accusations, and predetermined conclusions, the Democrats’ J6 committee has come to a close. The Pelosi-run group aimed at investigating the events of January 6 (but not the 2020 Election), ended by recommending the DOJ investigate Donald Trump.
After millions of dollars spent and countless hours used up, Democrats did what we knew they would do before the committee was started.
It’s unclear what impact (if any) this referral will have. We know that Biden’s DOJ has already been investigating Trump, with a questionable special counsel leading the charge. But what we do know is that this J6 committee has outed most Senate Republicans to be nothing more than RINOs.
From The Hill:
Senate Republicans are stepping out of the way of the House Jan. 6 committee’s recommendation that the Justice Department prosecute former President Trump for crimes related to the 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol…
GOP senators… say the Jan. 6 committee interviewed “credible” witnesses and added to the historical record in a substantial way…
Only one Republican senator, Sen. Tommy Tuberville (Ala.), has publicly endorsed Trump’s 2024 presidential bid.
Well, look at that. Republicans In Name Only are coming out of the woodwork to defend Democrats’ J6 findings. Mitch McConnell and his allies have gone as far as to say the witnesses Democrats assembled were “credible.”
McConnell said Trump is responsible for the events of January 6. Sen. John Thune wants the Justice Department to continue the work against Donald Trump. Sen. Rob Portman, who is leaving the Senate, said the work of J6 was “important.”
Meanwhile, most other Senate Republicans have refused to comment on the committee’s findings. None of them have stood by Trump’s side, as Democrats staffed this committee with partisan enemies with axes to grind.
The only Republican who appears on Trump’s side is Tommy Tuberville. The rest of the party, which had long worked with Trump during his term, is either silent or has turned against him. This comes as no other Republican has announced a 2024 run and Trump leads in several polls.
Key Takeaways:
- Senate RINOs are turning on Trump in the aftermath of J6’s criminal referral.
- Mitch McConnell and other Republican senators have blamed Trump and want him prosecuted.
- The rest of the Senate Republicans are silent, refusing to defend Trump.
