When Donald Trump was in the White House, he loved America’s military. He often praised our nation’s heroes for their hard work, and supported their efforts at home and overseas.
To many, he was one of the most pro-military Presidents in U.S. history. This is a big reason why millions of Republicans and Conservatives around the nation voted for him in 2016 and 2020.
So it’s no surprise to hear Mr. Trump deliver a stirring message on Memorial Day.
While many veterans came down hard on Vice President Kamala Harris’ tweet (in which she just called it a “long weekend”), Trump offered a heartfelt statement.
This isn’t a holiday to be taken lightly, and the former President understands that perfectly.
The Congressional Research Service (CRS) tells us that over 1 million Americans have given their lives in service to their country, dating back to the Revolutionary War.
That’s what we honor today: the ultimate sacrifice so many made, and we also take time to appreciate those who continue to serve the United States on a daily basis.
Trump focused on our heroes in his official Memorial Day statement, and it went over very well with many citizens.
From Fox News:
On this Memorial Day, we remember the fallen heroes who took their last breaths in defense of our Nation, our families, our citizens, and our sacred freedoms.
The depth of their devotion, the steel of their resolve, and the purity of their patriotism has no equal in human history.
It is because of their gallantry that we can together, as one people, continue our pursuit of America’s glorious destiny.
While the deadliest wars in the country’s history are a ways back (the Civil War, WWI and WWII), we can’t forget about the recent War on Terror.
CRS says America has lost over 6,900 service members in this seemingly endless battle, and we know more will be lost in the future. It’s the price of freedom, which we all enjoy every day.
Trump typically heralded our military members during his term, praising them for their selflessness and heroism. He never missed an opportunity to show them respect.
Clearly, that wasn’t just a presidential publicity stunt — his message is just as strong and heartfelt even now that he’s out of office.
We owe all that we are, and everything we ever hope to be, to these unrivaled heroes.
Their memory and their legacy is immortal. Our loyalty to them and to their families is eternal and everlasting.
America’s warriors are the single greatest force for justice, peace, liberty, and security among all the nations ever to exist on earth.
God bless our fallen Soldiers, Sailors, Coast Guardsmen, Airmen, and Marines.
President Joe Biden will make a speech at Arlington National Cemetery today, but it’s unlikely that anything he says will resound as loudly or as strongly as Trump’s statements.
While Biden isn’t necessarily seen as “anti-military,” most right-wing civilians and politicians will say he’s nowhere near as supportive of the military as Trump.
So it stands to reason that the former President’s words hit home for many.
And it’s also probable that our veterans appreciate those words, and they won’t soon forget Trump’s support and respect.
