The Republican Party is continuing its primary debates. But most people seem to believe Trump will become the nominee.
The former president is forging ahead, despite intense opposition from Democrats and a few Republicans.
He has enjoyed endorsements from billionaires and influential Republican leaders. Quite often, he has scored endorsements from the least likely groups, like some labor unions. Now, he is receiving a plug that absolutely nobody expected.
From Daily Wire:
“You know, I like Trump personally and I think right now who we have sitting in the Oval Office is just a deep disappointment,” [Mark Fisher, co-founder of Black Lives Matter Rhode Island] said. “I deeply have disdain for him and I really dislike the vice president [Kamala Harris] as well.”…Trump responded to the BLM activist’s praise by praising him on social media and floating the possibility that he has done more for black people than any other president in history.
A man Fox News identified as the co-founder of a BLM chapter in Rhode Island recently praised Donald Trump. Mark Fisher said Trump did more for black Americans than most Democrats in recent years, calling them hypocrites.
He even said the Democratic Party was “not for” black people. Fisher called Joe Biden a “deep disappointment” and even said he disliked Kamala Harris. Trump responded to the plug by calling Fisher a “great guy” and touting his wins for black Americans while in office.
Trump claimed he secured “10 year funding for Historically Black Colleges and Universities” as well as the creation of Opportunity Zones and criminal justice reform. Here’s Trump’s full statement:
“Spoke with Mark Fisher yesterday, a great guy, very honored to have his and BLM’s support,” Trump said. “I have done more for Black people than any other President (Lincoln?), including 10 year funding for Historically Black Colleges and Universities, where they had none, Opportunity Zones, Criminal Justice Reform, and much more. Thank you to Mark!”
It appears Mark Fisher is not currently working with the BLM chapter he helped create. Black Lives Matter Rhode Island reportedly said that the man was “no longer affiliated” with them and that this position was “terminated.”
Perhaps the group was shocked that one of its leaders was criticizing President Biden and applauding Trump. Democrats have struggled to maintain popularity among black voters. Biden’s approval within the group has dropped dramatically since his election–largely thanks to the current economic climate.
It remains to be seen how many black voters will rally around Donald Trump in the next election. But chances are, he will bring in many more black voters than any other Republican nominee.
Key Takeaways:
- A co-founder of a BLM chapter in Rhode Island endorsed Donald Trump for president.
- Mark Fisher claimed Trump has done more for black people than most Democrats.
- This comes as Joe Biden loses approval among black voters by a large margin.
