President Trump Catches Democrats Off Guard, Says 2020 Mail-In Election May Need To Be Delayed

What’s Happening:

President Trump has been a vocal critic of mail-in voting.

In recent months, we’ve seen signs that the system is fraught with problems.

Today, President Trump highlighted those problems, once again saying it could lead to fraud.

If the system is really bad, he said it might require a shocking change to the election:

With Universal Mail-In Voting (not Absentee Voting, which is good), 2020 will be the most INACCURATE & FRAUDULENT Election in history. It will be a great embarrassment to the USA. Delay the Election until people can properly, securely and safely vote???

As usual, President Trump is using Twitter as a means to bypass traditional media to spark conversation about an important issue.

The MSM has consistently dismissed the growing threat mail-in voting poses. Yet we’ve seen in recent months how ballots have been lost or destroyed. Some states rejected ballots for various reasons.

President Trump made his bold statement to express his concern over mail-in voting. The Postal Service is known for its delays. Can voters be confident their ballots will get there on time, before November 3?

If not, Trump is asking the question everyone else should: should the election be delayed? If Democrats are so determined to embrace mail-in voting, then the delay might be inevitable.

Nobody wants that, so Trump is prodding Democrats to see what he and his supporters already see: mail-in voting is too risky and dangerous to rely on.

Democrats have frequently demanded mail-in voting because of the danger of spreading COVID-19. Yet most states mandate masks anytime Americans are out of their homes.

Some have pointed out that if people can social distance at stores and restaurants, why can’t they do the same to vote?

(Texas had a recent runoff election and was able to open polling places, with adequate safety measures in place.)

Many seem to agree that Americans can safely vote as usual, with extra measures in place like masks and social distancing. The threat of COVID can be managed, while still exercising our democracy.

President Trump is putting the burden on Democrats’ shoulders. If they insist on mail-in voting are they willing to delay the most important day of the year (and next four years)?

Or are they willing to admit mail-in voting is too unreliable?

Key Takeaways:

  • President Trump asked if the election should be delayed if mail-in voting is used.
  • The president has been a frequent critic of mail-in voting, saying it is open to fraud.
  • Recent stories have revealed the unreliability of mail-in voting, with ballots being lost or destroyed.
