Top Republican Tells FEMA They Need to Be “Torn Out” of DHS After Relief Debacle

A recent scandal involving FEMA has shocked Americans across the nation. A FEMA supervisor reportedly instructed workers to avoid homes with Trump signs while assessing Hurricane Milton’s damage in Florida.

Yes, you read that right. A federal official allegedly told workers to ignore houses needing assistance based purely on political beliefs. This isn’t just bias—it’s the kind of political discrimination we’re told doesn’t exist. Democrats have long warned about supposed Republican tyranny, but this blatant disregard for fairness comes straight from the playbook of those who claim to champion “equal treatment.”

Imagine your home battered by a hurricane, in dire need of help. But, because of a simple yard sign showing support for a candidate, relief teams bypass your house. This move feels disturbingly close to political persecution.

It’s the very definition of bigotry and everything Americans are supposed to reject. And now, a top Republican is calling for action.

From Daily Wire:
In response to The Daily Wire’s reporting that a supervisor at FEMA ordered relief workers to skip houses with signs supporting President-elect Donald Trump in Florida, Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) said the agency should be torn out of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and report directly to the White House.

Fired, But Is That Enough?

Following an exposé by The Daily Wire, FEMA swiftly fired the official at the center of this controversy, Marn’i Washington. She allegedly ordered her team to “avoid homes advertising Trump” while canvassing neighborhoods in Lake Placid, Florida, an area hit hard by Hurricane Milton.

But for many, that response feels like too little, too late. Appearing on Fox News Sunday, Rep. Donalds didn’t hold back. “Anybody involved with that should be fired immediately,” he declared.

And he’s not alone. Floridians and officials alike are outraged, including Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who is launching an investigation of his own. “We are not going to have a country where we decide who gets help based on who you support politically,” Donalds emphasized.

A Call for Overhaul: “FEMA Should Report Directly to the White House”

Rep. Donalds is pushing for more than just firing a few bad apples. He’s proposing a structural overhaul, arguing that FEMA should be separated from the Department of Homeland Security and report directly to the White House.

“When it comes to FEMA, my recommendation for the Trump transition team is that FEMA becomes a standalone agency that directly reports to the White House,” Donalds said.

“FEMA should be a direct report agency to the White House because when disaster recovery needs to take place, we need quick answers.” According to Donalds, this restructuring would ensure that when disasters strike, the people get the help they need without political or bureaucratic obstacles.

FEMA’s Problems Go Deeper Than One Official

This isn’t the first time FEMA has come under fire for inefficiency or questionable practices. Donalds pointed out that during Hurricane Ian, his district struggled to get timely responses from FEMA, describing it as “hard to get answers.”

Donalds believes that if FEMA answered directly to the president, disaster recovery would become a top priority, with Americans confident that help is on the way, no matter their political views or party affiliation.

Remember, this agency is currently being run by Alejandro Mayorkas. That is Biden’s head of the DHS. This is the same man who has ignored the border crisis for four years. He has shown a shocking political bias in his leadership over this agency.

Are we at all surprised that one of his officials is doing something so egregious.

Key Takeaways:

  • Political Bias Scandal: A FEMA official reportedly told workers to skip houses with Trump signs, sparking outrage.
  • Push for Overhaul: Rep. Byron Donalds calls for FEMA to report directly to the White House to avoid bureaucratic delays.
  • Immediate Action Needed: Calls are growing to reform FEMA to guarantee disaster relief for all, without discrimination.
