Since the start of the Biden administration, migrants have been flooding over the border. And no state has been hurt more than Texas. The largest state sharing a border with Mexico has seen hundreds of thousands–if not millions–of illegal border crossers. Some might assume this crisis is only affecting border towns. Not so.
The northern county of Harris Texas has been impacted by the crisis. A land developer created a project called “Colony Ridge.” This development program has been aggressively building housing in recent years. Reports reveal that most of the housing is being given to illegal aliens. Shocked by this activity, Texas Republicans are calling for action from the governor.
From Daily Wire:
The Republican Party of Texas unanimously passed a resolution calling on Governor Greg Abbott to convene a special legislative session to address Colony Ridge, the massive housing development north of Houston that’s become a hub for illegal immigrants.
The resolution, which passed by a vote of 61-0, says a special legislative session must be convened in order to “prevent further settlement of illegal aliens in Colony Ridge and any other areas of Texas.” The power to call a special legislative session is with Abbott, who has already been urged by the state’s Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick to do the same.
Republican leaders in Texas passed a resolution calling on the governor to convene a special legislative session. They are demanding Gov Abbott to ensure the state passes a law that bans settlements that are housing illegal border crosses.
News of Colony Ridge has only come out recently. It appears the developer, William “Trey” Harris, has been using the border crisis to get rich. Allegations have come out against lawmakers from the county, who have received “thousands of dollars” from the developer.
The energy company that services Colony Ridge has spent over $100,000 on lobbying efforts to protect the development. It appears that big bucks are being spent to ensure an endless number of illegal aliens are able to live in this development, regardless of the long-term consequences.
If this development is allowed to remain, it will lead to more trouble in the future. Such projects will spring up in other parts of Texas and around the country. Land developers will quickly build housing for border crossers, depriving American citizens of homes, services, and jobs.
Abbott has not yet responded to the resolution, but it is unlikely he will ignore it.
