Texas Governor Just Scored a Historic Win – Here’s Why It’s Great News for Every American

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott doesn’t mince words when he sets his sights on policies or politics. The Republican governor has gone to bat for Americans against anyone, including the president, who supports policies that hurt citizens.

Abbott has been vocal in challenging Biden administration actions that created the crisis at the southern border. The governor implemented border barriers and sent Texas military troops to defend the border.

He hasn’t backed down even as the president wielded the force of the federal Department of Justice against him. Abbott has demanded Texas lawmakers support his actions, and in the Super Tuesday primary this week he punished incumbents who stood against him.

From Fox News:
Several Texas conservatives challenging state House GOP incumbents came out on top in the Lone Star State Tuesday night in a victory for Gov. Greg Abbott.

At least nine Republican lawmakers appeared to lose their primaries and an additional eight were forced into runoffs, including Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan.

Abbott-backed primary challengers focused on the border crisis and Abbott’s high-priority school voucher plan. Abbott had endorsed a slew of conservative challengers in a bid to oust GOP incumbents who voted with Democrats last fall to thwart his proposals.

“It was time because of the border. The open border is one of the major issues in our district,” said Janis Holt, who won the southeast District 18 primary.

“Our district is home to one of the largest, if not the largest illegal immigrant population in the world, in the country,” she said. “And it is ground zero here and the open border is terrible here.”

Challengers voiced how Texans are fed up with Republican incumbents not doing anything about illegal immigrants and failing to deliver on promises to voters.

Before getting into the race, Marc LaHood said he was told he was “too conservative” for District 121, located in the northern part of San Antonio. The major Texas city is a Democrat stronghold and a self-proclaimed sanctuary city.

“People want security. They want conservative principles, and they want leadership. So, we won decisively. Thank God,” LaHood said.

While the border crisis topic appeared to be enough to ignite disenfranchised Republican voters, the school choice issue was a priority for Abbott.

“Republican primary voters have once again sent an unmistakable message that parents deserve the freedom to choose the best education pathway for their child,” Abbott said in a statement Tuesday evening.

“We will continue to help true conservative candidates on the ballot who stand with the majority of their constituents in supporting education freedom for every Texas family,” Abbott said.

The Texas races may prove to be a precursor to voter sentiment heading into the fall elections where the border crisis and parents’ choice will be hot topics for voters on a national scale.

Key Takeaways:

  • Abbott-backed challengers ousted Texas Republican incumbents over the border issue.
  • Texas has a massive illegal immigrant population and voters there are fed up.
  • Challengers also ran on school choice and sent a strong message to lawmakers.
