Remember when the radical city council of Minneapolis promised to not only defund their PD, but to “abolish” it?
Yeah, those were simpler times, huh? Soon after that attempt, crime skyrocketed in the city. It got so bad, some neighborhoods had to hire private security.
Others, just fled the region.
Minneapolis’ leaders, to stop the chaos, had to relent their idiotic scheme. They pumped $64 million into the PD to hire more cops.
From Daily Wire:
On Friday, the Minneapolis City Council voted unanimously to approve $6.4 million in funding for its police department in order to recruit new officers. This comes after months of some members of the council denigrated the department after George Floyd’s death.
Yep, the leader of the “defund police” movement is spending millions to hire more cops. Ironic? No, just inevitable.
Now, the governor of Texas has the perfect response.
From Daily Wire:
“Looks like defunding police didn’t go well in Minneapolis,” Abbott fired on Twitter. “Now they’re spending $6.4M to recruit more police officers. It won’t go well in Texas either. That’s why I want legislation preventing cities from defunding police.”
Gov. Abbott of Texas called out the disaster that was the defund movement in Minneapolis. He let everyone know the radical leftist city council had to shell out $6.4 million to hire more cops.
The governor went on to call out any Texas city that wants to defund the police as well. Some large cities in Texas, including Dallas and Austin, voted to slash millions from their police departments.
These big cities have some of the highest crime rates in Texas. Big surprise, the TX cities that increased their police budgets saw less crime. Imagine that?
Abbott has vowed to pass legislation that will discourage cities from defunding the police. His biggest move will be to cut state funding from cities that try to do that. The governor might explore other options as well.
All throughout last year, Democrat mayors slashed police budgets in apparent attempts of virtue signaling. Almost as if on cue, crime skyrocketed in those cities.
So far, Minneapolis has buckled. I’m sure others are soon to follow. If only they were smart enough to listen to leaders like Abbott?
- Minneapolis was forced to go back on their defund police movement.
- They voted to spend $6.4 million to hire more police.
- Abbott slammed the city and vowed to punish TX cities who do the same.
