Joe Biden invited the world to come across the open southern border during his campaign to become president. The world responded and millions of illegal immigrants have flooded across the border and fanned out to Democrat-run sanctuary cities across the nation.
Texas has been one of the states hit hardest by Biden’s open border policies. State leaders stepped up when Biden waffled and began building border barriers such as barrier buoys in the Rio Grande River and concertina wire fences along the border.
Biden responded with lawsuits and having his federal Border Patrol agents cut some of the Texas fencing and let illegal immigrants stroll right into the country. Texas won federal injunctions to stop Biden’s legal assault and has added a new twist to border security with anti-climbing technology.
From the Daily Caller:
Texas National Guard members are erecting 12-foot-tall wire fence panels laced with 3-feet of concertina wire in Brownsville, Texas… The state recently secured an injunction on Tuesday in an ongoing court battle with the federal government, as Border Patrol has been cutting the razor wire.
Texas faces another estimated 1,000 migrants camping in Matamoros, Mexico, which is across from Brownsville. A massive record surge in illegal crossings has impacted border operations in recent weeks. In just the last two months, there have been more than 547,000 illegal migrants crossing the border.
Texas National Guard members are tasked with adding extra fencing to try to stop the surge. The plan is to build 6,000 feet of added barrier, half of which has been done already.
Texas National Guard Capt. Chris Daniel stated that Guard members are reinforcing the fencing with plastic ballasts filled with water that and stability and rigidity. The weight makes the fencing not as easy to push over or pull down, he said.
“What it’s doing is reinforcing the concertina (wire) that’s already there on the bank to try to stop the migrant traffic that’s moving through in between these ports of entry here,” Daniel said. “When (Guard members) come in contact with migrants they radio to others. We’re strictly here to place the barriers,”
Texas continued to step up the fight against illegal border crossings when Gov. Greg Abbott (R) signed a law that allows state authorities to arrest migrants for illegal entry. He also began flying migrants to Chicago after city officials started stopping buses filled with migrants.
“President Biden has repeatedly refused to enforce federal immigration laws already on the books and do his job to secure the border,” Abbott told the Daily Caller News Foundation of his latest legislation. “In his absence, Texas has the constitutional authority to secure our border through historic laws like SB 4.”
Key Takeaways:
- Texas steps up action to stop illegal immigrants with new fencing technology.
- The anti-climbing fencing is designed to boost concertina wire already in place.
- Texas Gov. Abbott also signs a law that allows state authorities to arrest illegals.
