Democrats Refuse To Put Term Limits On Congress – But They Want To Limit Supreme Court Terms To 18 Years

What’s Happening:

In what’s becoming a common habit on the left, Democrats are trying to change the rules.

This time, it’s because Trump is poised to change the balance of power in the courts.

They already threatened to “pack” the Supreme Court or even create new states to get senators.

Pelosi at one time promised to impeach Trump to prevent a new SCOTUS pick.

But, yet again, they are coming up with ways to radically alter our government.

This time, they even crafted a bill:

Democrats in of the House of Representatives will introduce a bill next week to limit the tenure of U.S. Supreme Court justices to 18 years from current lifetime appointments…

The new bill, seen by Reuters, would allow every president to nominate two justices per four-year term and comes amid heightened political tensions as Republican President Donald Trump prepares to announce his third pick for the Supreme Court after the death on Sept. 18 of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, with just 40 days to go until the Nov. 3 election.

Democrats want to limit the lifetime appointments of Supreme Court justices to just 18 years.

How convenient! Just after they lost a liberal justice who served for 27 years—and Trump is about to appoint his third one—Democrats are suddenly concerned with term limits.

They claim it’s to “preserve the court’s legitimacy.” Apparently, the court is only “legitimate” when it has a lopsided liberal majority.

The role of the Supreme Court is to uphold and support the Constitution. Yet liberal-appointed judges and justices are more like left-wing activists than jurists.

It seems like they are more concerned with reinventing the law rather than upholding it.

The reason why justices have lifetime appointments is so they won’t be beholden to anyone.

Their duty is to the Constitution, not a political party or figure.

But limited terms would largely politicize the court—more so than the Democrats already have done.

And isn’t it rich that the same people who refuse to create term limits for Congress want term limits for the branch of government that holds them in check?

Funny how that works, huh? Democrats in Congress want power forever but want to deny 9 justices the right to uphold the law for a lifetime.

Perhaps these term limits should first apply to House members?

Key Takeaways:

  • House Democrats are pushing a bill to set term limits on Supreme Court justices.
  • The bill would change the lifetime term of justices to just 18 years.
  • Congress has routinely refused to set term limits on their own offices.
