Democrats are pretty upset with the way the Supreme Court has been ruling. The court enjoys a 6-3 conservative majority, thanks to former President Trump. Democrats have been trying to upend this situation with outrageous calls against Justice Clarence Thomas and others. They seem to think they can bully the court into obeying their whims.
But they might have even more reason to panic, after 2024.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is looking into the future. If a Republican retakes the White House, he might have a chance to make a huge impact on the highest court in the land. And the Florida governor just predicted what might happen for a “quarter-century.”

The Republican governor moved on to talk about the possibility of having a two-term Republican president find a replacement for Roberts, and perhaps Justice Sonia Sotomayor, a 68-year-old Obama appointee.
DeSantis predicted that if the next president is a two-term Republican, we could be looking at a Supreme Court 7-2 conservative majority that lasts a quarter-century. Two of the court’s best justices, Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas, are in their mid-seventies.
They might end up retiring in the next four years. That would give the next president a chance to replace them. But only a Republican president would find solid, constitutional justices to fill their seats.
But, in perhaps eight years, two more justices might be looking to retire. Chief Justice Roberts, a Bush-appointed judge, is in his sixties. As is Obama’s appointee Sonia Sotomayor. Roberts is a “swing” vote that often sides with the liberal wing. And Sotomayor, of course, is liberal.
Both might be looking to return in the next eight years. If we had a Republican president in his second term, he could find two conservative justices to replace these liberal-leaning ones. Meaning, we’d have a 7-2 conservative Supreme Court, a majority that would terrify the radical left.
And, if the president picks young enough justice, they could be serving for 25 years or longer.
This is hardly a long shot. If we elect someone to replace Biden, they could very well do this. But it requires voters flooding the polls and ensure Sleepy Joe is out on his can by January 2025.
