Democrats are terrified about how the Supreme Court will rule on major abortion laws. The court heard arguments over two laws, from Mississippi and Texas. How it rules could defang Roe v. Wade, allowing conservative states to outlaw abortion. Democrats could lose millions that this brutal and barbaric industry brings into their coffers.
So, eager Senate Democrats tried to outsmart the Supreme Court. They were ready to pass a law that would make their ruling moot. This law would “codify” Roe v. Wade for the first time, making abortion legal in every state. It would rob states of their right to regulate the practice. But Senate Republicans shut them down.

Every Senate Democrat except Manchin and Sen. Bob Casey, D-Pa., cosponsored the legislation. Casey voted in favor of debate on the legislation.
Republicans, along with moderate Joe Manchin, shut down an effort by congressional Democrats to protect abortion. Their poorly named “Women’s Health Protection Act” would legalize abortions in every state, regardless of what the Supreme Court decided. This bill passed in the House 218-211, with only one Democrat voting against it.
But thanks to the filibuster rule, it would have taken 60 votes for the bill to be brought up for debate in the Senate. Thankfully, not a single Republican voted even to debate the bill, ensuring it would never see the light of day.
This was clearly a last-ditch effort by the left to protect abortion. The Supreme court could rule in a way that ends abortion across the entire nation. Or, it might decide that states have the power to limit or restrict abortions, as they see fit. Regardless of how the court rules, Democrats would lose one of their biggest cash cows.
Planned Parenthood receives millions of dollars a year from the government and private donations. They say they provide a variety of care for women—but they mostly do abortions. And, every year, they shuffle millions into Democrats’ re-election campaigns, ensuring these politicians will always protect a detestable and outdated practice.
Democrats are watching this easy money evaporate. And they can’t do anything to stop it.
