Seattle has been a hotbed of rioting since early Summer 2020. The city was overrun by anarchists who created “CHAZ/CHOP.”
The mayor only got tough and removed them after she started to feel the political heat.
But the situation didn’t get better after that. Riots continued throughout the city. On top of that, the police lost millions from their budget and the police chief stepped down.
So it’s not surprising some citizens were circulating a petition for the mayor to be recalled and removed from office.
She tried to block it, but a court just denied her:
Durkan, a Democrat, was called out by five Seattle residents who filed a petition seeking to recall her because of how law enforcement officials have responded to protests this summer, according to The Seattle Times…
Durkan reportedly asked the circuit court judge to reconsider the decision, but the request was denied.
A circuit court judge denied the mayor’s attempt to dismiss a petition to recall her from office.
Hundreds of citizens appeared at town hall meetings, expressing their rejection of the defund the police movement.
Despite that, the city votes to slash the PDs budget. This led to the police chief resigning.
The unrest from a small number of anarchists has impacted the entire city. Businesses and homes within the CHAZ were damaged or destroyed.
Riots continue to persist, but the mayor appears unwilling to end it. She, like other Democrats, opposed federal intervention, which led to more problems.
President Trump has been outspoken in calling on local leaders to end the riots. Leaders in Washington state and Seattle have rejected his guidance.
It should come as no surprise that some residents want the mayor recalled. If they get enough signatures, it can end up as a ballot measure in the upcoming election.
Of course, Durkan is trying to stop the measure. Even now, the Democrat doesn’t seem to understand why Seattle residents are so upset.
That is a common trend among far-left blue leaders. From Los Angeles to Chicago to Seattle, Democrat leaders push radical policies, despite what their own people are saying.
Even if Durkan is not recalled, it is unlikely she will be re-elected. Even Democrat voters are growing tired of policies that reward criminals and punish police and citizens.
