RNC Pulls 2024 Rug Out from Democrats – They Just Unanimously Voted to Abandon Debate Commission

What’s Happening:

The 2024 Presidential Election might still be two years away. But plenty is happening now that will shake up that election cycle.

Most people are speculating on who will run, both for the Republicans and the Democrats. That’s only the tip of the iceberg of how that race will shake out.

Donald Trump has long criticized one institution connected to presidential races. Now, the entire GOP has just dumped it.

From Fox News:

The Republican National Committee unanimously voted to withdraw from the Commission on Presidential Debates…

“Debates are an important part of the democratic process, and the RNC is committed to free and fair debates,” McDaniel said in the statement. “The Commission on Presidential Debates is biased and has refused to enact simple and commonsense reforms to help ensure fair debates including hosting debates before voting begins and selecting moderators who have never worked for candidates on the debate stage.”

This is pretty big news. The Commission on Presidential Debates is (supposedly) a bipartisan body that has been organizing debates for over 30 years.

But the 2020 Election revealed the group has an agenda. And that’s to give Democrat candidates an advantage.

Then-candidate Donald Trump objected to numerous decisions made by the CPD in 2020. They picked moderators who were biased. One was literally a former intern for Joe Biden while in the Senate.

They tried to dramatic changes to the debate format, in what appeared to be efforts to help ailing Joe Biden.

Trump has since called for the Republican Party to leave the CPD over this unlevel playing field. And today, the RNC announced it has withdrawn.

This means Republican candidates for president will not participate in debates organized by the CPD. That effectively shuts down the group.

Democrats can’t debate themselves. So, liberal candidates will have to coordinate with Republicans on whether or not they’ll debate each other in 2024.

This is good news, because maybe, for the first time in decades, we’ll get a real debate. Most modern debates are little more than shouting matches.

Candidates aren’t really debating the issues, but trading barbs. That’s largely due to how the CPD organized and moderated those debates.

Hopefully now, that trend is over.

Key Takeaways:

  • The RNC has withdrawn from the Commission on Presidential Debates.
  • This comes after Trump criticized the CPD during the 2020 Election.
  • Trump accused the CPD of showing special treatment to Joe Biden.
