These days, support for our veterans is more important than ever.
With war breaking out again in Europe and years of “defund the police,” many citizens are pushing for more honoring of our local and military heroes.
That’s why a grand total of 76 Republicans are petitioning Biden to bring back one military tradition.
Since it was founded in 2005, the Honor Flight Network has celebrated U.S. veterans “by inviting them to share in a day of honor at our nation’s memorials.”
They fly vets all around the U.S. to Washington D.C. and many times, they do require assistance and escort.
Except recently, they haven’t been able to secure the necessary escorts, which creates a major hurdle for veterans who need medical accommodations.
That’s why those 76 GOP members are stepping up (via Fox News):
A group of 76 House Republicans Monday is pressing President Biden’s administration to resume government escorts for “honor flights” that allow elderly veterans to tour war memorials in Washington, D.C.
Led by Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, the group is asking Department of Interior (DOI) Secretary Deb Haaland to re-authorize United States Park Police (USPP) to provide the tours with ‘vehicular escort services granted in previous years.’
This organization has been very busy over the years.
They’ve managed to take nearly a quarter-million (245,000) vets from WWII, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War to memorials they’ve never seen.
But if this is to continue, the vets need the help via the escort:
It is imperative that veterans – particularly those with physical disabilities – have the necessary parking access to ensure ease of entry to each war memorial to get the full experience they have earned.
Along with Rep. Roy, 75 Republicans jumped on board, including House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA), House Conference Chair Elise Stefanik (N.Y.), and Rep. Dan Crenshaw.
This actually isn’t the first attempt to get the escorts back.
Last month, Rep. Brian Mast (FL) and several other GOP members requested the same thing from Interior Democrats.
The bottom line is that Republicans – and likely many American citizens – want these heroes to have the opportunity to visit our nation’s monuments.
And it’s likely that the Biden administration will continue to face more requests if they refuse to grant these escorts.
