When Joe Biden took over in the White House, many members of the mainstream media swore they’d treat the new President the same way they treated the former Commander-in-Chief.
When Republicans and other right-wing politicos suggested the press would treat Biden with kid gloves, reporters pushed back. They emphasized “fairness and transparency.”
But sometimes, it’s easy to spot possible double standards.
For instance, Donald Trump really couldn’t get away with anything. If he made a statement that was in any way off-color or potentially insulting, the media quickly ran with it.
And while Trump’s bombastic nature opened him up for plenty of backlash, one has to wonder why Biden gets a free pass for occasionally saying similar things.
After delivering a speech at a Ford factory to help promote the electric vehicle trend, and his American Jobs Plan, Biden took a spin in an electric-powered truck.
During this time, a reporter wanted to ask the President a question about Israel — and Biden’s response should’ve raised some eyebrows.
Here’s the exchange, via The Daily Wire:
REPORTER: Mr. President, can I ask you a quick question on Israel before you drive away?
BIDEN: No, you can’t. Not unless you get in front of the car as I step on it.
BIDEN: I’m only teasing.
Yes, of course he’s teasing. But there are some important elements here that many observers noticed:
Firstly, the media’s general response is just one of good-natured laughter; they obviously weren’t put off by the comment.
Secondly, Biden’s questionable response was basically ignored by the press. It wasn’t mentioned and it wasn’t considered even remotely controversial — it’s almost as if it didn’t happen.
And thirdly, the situation with Israel is serious, and the country continues to face several crises in Biden’s first months. And journalists are just laughing along with the President…?
Australian journalist Rita Panahi noted:
Terrible inflation/jobs numbers, widespread gas shortages, worst border crisis in 20 years, Arab Israeli conflict after Biden’s Middle East pivot…and the journos are giggling like schoolgirls. https://t.co/N7DWmDPbOs

Washington Times reporter Mike Glenn added that he’s “embarrassed by how grotesquely servile these WH stenographers are.”
And political commentator Amy Tarkanian put into words what many Republicans and Conservatives were thinking:
Joe Biden just threatened to run a reporter over with a car for wanting to ask a question about Israel.
If President Trump had done this, he would have been impeached.
Jokingly or not, this rhetoric is completely unbecoming of the President. pic.twitter.com/A1ghGwi5JC

Newsbusters reporter Nicholas Fondacaro also said:

That sums it up right there.
- President Joe Biden joked about running over a reporter with a truck.
- Reporters just laughed it off, but other politicos and journalists quickly jumped on the apparent hypocrisy.
- They claim Trump would’ve been treated very differently if he’d said the same thing. And considering the problems America faces, maybe now’s not a time to laugh.
