The country has watched as radical activists camp out on college campuses in New York. These activists have been protesting the nation of Israel and spreading violent, antisemitic rhetoric.
One of the camps was cleared away after NYU officials had enough. But Columbia University continues to waffle, as Jewish students fear going to classes.
It seems these shocking displays of hatred are inspiring other progressives across the country. A group of students decided to build their own camp to support Hamas and slander Israel. The only problem was they were doing it in Texas. Their plans didn’t last long.
From The Post Millennial:
On Wednesday, Texas police were dispatched to the University of Texas at Austin to restore lawful order after anti-Israel protests erupted on campus, sparking chaos and disruption…The anti-Israel demonstrations began around noon, and by 2 pm, students had set up a Gaza solidarity encampment on the grass in front of the UT Tower…
However, unlike other colleges which have been plagued by similar antisemitic protests, university officials warned organizers about disciplinary action ahead of time, saying that the organizers appeared to intend to “violate our policies and rules and disrupt our campus operations” which would not be tolerated.

Rumbles began among UT Austin students about a pro-Hamas camp being built on campus. Before it even happened, school officials warned students such actions would not be tolerated. They also vowed to arrest non-students who wanted to settle in and join the camp.
Ignoring these warnings, a group of students started building a “solidarity encampment” in support of Gaza on campus. The school notified authorities and over 100 Texas State troopers arrived to clear away the camp. Students resisted the dispersal orders so police started to arrest them.
Gov. Abbott promised arrests would continue until the crowd dispersed. He said, “Antisemitism will not be tolerated in Texas. Period.” The response from the school and Texas authorities has been radically different than Democrats in blue state and liberal schools. Democrats have shown weakness in the face of growing antisemitism in their cities and on their campuses.
School presidents have refused to confront antisemitism among their students. Democrats seem afraid to call out progressives for openly opposing Israel and Jewish people.
Key Takeaways:
- Antisemitic progressives built a camp on UT Austin, violating school policy.
- The school called in Texas State troopers to disperse the crowd and arrest agitators.
- This comes as schools in blue states refuse to confront growing antisemitism.
