We’ve heard all about how Nancy Pelosi is losing her grip on her own party.
The so-called “squad” of far-left Democrats voted against her spending bill for Capitol security.
Her measure passed by only one vote, showing just how weak Pelosi’s influence has become.
But the spending measure shouldn’t have passed at all. Why? Because on Republican vote was missing.
As it turns out, his proxy stupidly forgot to vote.
From The Epoch Times:
A member of the House didn’t cast a proxy vote for a fellow congressman on the Democrat-backed $1.9 billion Capitol security spending bill because it slipped his mind, according to a spokesperson.
A spokesperson for Rep. Ken Calvert (R-Calif.) told Just the News that “Calvert had been voting by proxy” for Rep. John Carter (R-Texas) “throughout the week” before the vote was held. It came just days after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) extended the COVID-19 vote-by-proxy mandate for several more weeks, a move criticized by Republicans.
But for the vote on the $1.9 billion package on May 20, “Rep. Calvert made a mistake and simply forgot to cast Rep. Carter’s vote,” the spokesperson said.
Here’s a pretty obvious reason why vote-by-proxy is ridiculous and should not be used.
A Republican from California was casting another Republican’s vote for a week. But when it came time to vote on Pelosi’s toxic package, he just forgot.
We can’t assume there was anything foul about this mistake. Rep. Calvert must be an absent-minded lawmaker or just bad at his job.
The real blame lies with Rep. Carter, who should have been in D.C. in person to cast his all-important vote.
This really highlights, once again, why proxy voting is a bad thing. These congressmen were elected by their district, so they can go to D.C. and fight for them.
They weren’t elected so someone else from CA could vote in their place.
These elected officials are literally phoning it in.
I’m sorry, but if you bother to run a campaign, urge people to vote for you, and collect a paycheck—you should be in D.C. to cast your vote.
If you don’t, why did we bother to elect you at all?
- Pelosi’s latest spending package was passed by just one vote.
- It turns out that one vote wasn’t cast, because the proxy forgot.
- This highlights the obvious problems with proxy voting in general.
