Nancy Pelosi Just Suffered Her 17th Loss – Rep. Welch Becomes The Latest Democrat In Congress To Wave The White Flag For 2022

As President Joe Biden’s approval rating continues to fall, and “red waves” start to pop up in state elections, Democrats are starting to worry.

Currently, Republicans are hoping to flip a lot of seats in the 2022 midterm elections. And right now they like their chances.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has another reason to be concerned.

For much of 2021, Democrat leaders have warned about losing members due to retirements, and officials leaving to seek state posts.

That’s causing Pelosi’s already slim majority to dwindle even further.

Now, another Democrat is leaving, and the GOP is already eyeing his seat. It’s yet another opportunity for Republicans to gain valuable ground.

When 2022 rolls around, all these losses could result in a significant Republican surge.

From Breitbart:

Democrat Rep. Peter Welch (D-VT) launched his Senate campaign on Monday to replace retiring Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-VT), abandoning the Democrats in House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) dwindling majority.

Welch’s departure is a growing trend in 2021.

More Democrats are leaving Washington for a variety of reasons, and it’s starting to pile up: this is the 17th Democrat to leave the House.

Welch would rather try for a high-ranking position in the state of Vermont.

And as he said in a statement on Twitter:

Welch will also have the support of Sen. Bernie Sanders, one of the most controversial Democrat leaders in the country.

Said Sanders:

Welch understands that if we are going to combat the existential threat of climate change, establish universal health care, lower the cost of prescription drugs, create good paying jobs in Vermont and protect American democracy, now is the time to think big, not small.

Obviously, Welch’s departure doesn’t automatically mean Republicans gain a seat.

Many other left-wing politicians will take aim at Welch’s seat, but the GOP does have a chance at snagging it if they run the right candidate.

As for Pelosi, her position in the House gets even more tenuous.

She’s hinted that she might step down if the House flips red in 2022, and her majority is definitely in danger given the current environment.

Retirements and departing Democrats are yet another hurdle, and Republicans are really hoping to take advantage.

Key Takeaways:

  • House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s majority takes another hit.
  • Rep. Peter Welch is leaving the House to replace leftist Vermont Senator Patrick Leahy, who’s retiring.
  • He’s the 17th Democrat to ditch the House this year, which gives Republicans even more of an advantage.
