It’s no secret that Democrats are trying to overload the “relief” bill with massive spending. Most of it is totally unrelated to the pandemic.
After stalling for months, they are now forcing through a bill that apparently does little to address Americans’ ongoing problems.
For instance, did you know that Nancy Pelosi snuck in $140 million for her San Francisco subway project? She claims, somehow, this is related to the crisis from last year.
But, because Democrats are using reconciliation, there is only so much cheating they can do. And it turns out, Pelosi overplayed her hand.
From NY Post:
Funding for a rail project near House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s California district that Republicans denounced as wasteful was removed Tuesday from President Biden’s $1.9 trillion COVID-19 stimulus bill…
Republicans singled out the rail project as an example of unrelated “pork” in the bill, which is being rammed through Congress without Republican support using special rules that allow a simple majority vote in the Senate.
Democrats didn’t want to work with Republicans to craft a real relief bill. So, they took the “nuclear option” of forcing their agenda through using reconciliation to the budget.
But that limits what can actually be put into the “relief” bill. And while plenty of wasteful spending is on the docket, one project just hit the brakes.
Pelosi won’t be able to sucker Congress into paying for her rail project in San Francisco. She claimed that residents were too afraid to take public transit, so they needed a bailout from D.C.
Nice try. San Francisco residents weren’t taking public transit because they were not allowed to leave their houses. Democrats rushed to shut down their states, never thinking about how it would impact everything.
That doesn’t mean American taxpayers have to flip the bill for Pelosi’s boondoggle.
It seems like Democrats don’t understand the meaning of the word “relief.” This bill was supposed to help Americans battling this pandemic.
Ideally, it would spend money on continued support for hospitals and nursing homes. Perhaps additional funding for the vaccination rollout. Some relief checks to those still out of work would be nice.
What Democrats heard was, “Hey! Now’s our chance to spending a God-awful amount of other people’s money!”
Did they think we would notice?
- Nancy Pelosi wanted $140 million for the San Francisco rail project.
- The Senate removed that provision from the “COVID relief” bill.
- Because they are using the nuclear option, they can’t get everything they want.
