What’s Happening:
Much has been said about Nancy Pelosi’s “25th Amendment Committee.”
We know that it takes legislation for Congress to remove a president using that amendment.
And it’s unlikely the Senate nor Trump would sign off.
Some think Pelosi might be trying to affect the election by saying Trump is unfit. Others, like the president himself, believe she is doing this to remove Biden (if elected) and install Kamala.
Either way, one senator is fighting back with a move of her own:
Sen. Kelly Loeffler (R-Ga.) is expected to introduce a resolution to condemn House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) after the Democratic lawmaker announced the creation of a “Commission on President Capacity.”
…
The Republican senator’s resolution that she will introduce suggests Pelosi “has failed to put forward a just cause for invoking the 25th Amendment,” as The Hill reports. It also accuses House Democrats of trying to “delegitimize” the presidency of President Donald Trump.
According to Pelosi’s bill, she wants to make it so Congress can decide if a president should stay in office.
Sounds like she is trying to create a backdoor system to impeach a president—if regular impeachment doesn’t work.
Critics can easily accuse Pelosi of trying to undermine a president Congress doesn’t like or refuses to work with. Which is exactly what Sen. Loeffler is accusing her of.
The senator has introduced a resolution to call Pelosi’s bill what it is: a scheme to “delegitimize” Trump’s presidency, just weeks before the election.
Loeffler says Pelosi has no real reason for invoking the 25th Amendment and her resolution would be a powerful rebuke against the Speaker.
It’s no secret that Pelosi has tried to undermine the president at every turn. Remember, she impeached him over a phone call. She tore up his SOTU address. And she tried to contradict his efforts to battle the virus, by encouraging people to visit San Francisco in February.
By talking about the 25th Amendment right now, it looks as if Pelosi is trying to spoil the election. Just as people go to the polls (some with early voting), she is trying to say Trump is “too sick” to be in office.
Pretty rich, considering the state of his rival!
Democrats have accused Trump and others of “election interference.” How can this move by Pelosi be viewed any other way?
She seems to be trying to influence the election by pretending to be “concerned” for the office.
Are you buying that?
Key Takeaways:
- Sen Loeffler is introducing a resolution to answer Pelosi’s 25th Amendment scheme.
- She accuses the Speaker of trying to undermine and delegitimizing Trump’s presidency.
- Pelosi is pushing this move, just weeks before the election.
