Critics of the 2020 Olympic games have been calling it the “woke” Olympics, given the highly publicized inclusion of certain transgender athletes.
It has also received plenty of attention for apparent anti-American sentiment on the part of U.S. athletes. For example, hammer thrower Gwen Berry slamming the national anthem at the Olympic trials.
But at least one Olympian is clearly proud of her country.
When an athlete wins a gold medal at the Games, it’s customary for the victor to grab the flag of his or her country and display it for all to see. Sometimes they take a lap with it as well.
That has been common practice for many years, and it shows the national pride of the athlete and appreciation for their homeland.
However, the “woke” Olympics seems to be more about blurring the lines between male and female, and condemning patriotism. Though we don’t see much of this anti-patriotic sentiment from other countries.
At any rate, U.S. wrestler Tamyra Mensah-Stock doesn’t care about any of that.
She erupted in a captivating and emotional patriotic display when she won her first gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics. And it’s one of the most inspiring things you’ll ever see:

It’s her words and actions that echoed so loudly across the world.
Not only did Mensah-Stock drape herself in the American flag in a proud display of nationalism, but she even thanked God for helping her win.
After defeating Nigeria’s Blessing Oborududu 4-1 in the 68-kilogram freestyle final, the U.S. athlete said she “surprised herself,” then said it felt “amazing” to represent her country.
That’s when red-blooded Americans received another nice surprise. The tearful victor added:
I love representing the US. I freaking love living there.
I love it. And I’m so happy I get to represent USA!
“I freaking love living there.” 5 of the most patriotic words we’ve heard in a long time.
Mensah-Stock is the first black woman to win an Olympic gold in wrestling for the U.S. and only the second American woman in history to do it.
That should be cause for much celebration, and she obviously isn’t afraid to celebrate. She also isn’t afraid to proclaim her love for her country or God, two things which feel increasingly taboo these days.
While the left praise people like Berry, those who actually love their country will likely applaud Mensah-Stock’s outpouring of patriotic emotion.
It may not be the “trendy” thing to do but to millions of Americans, it’s the right thing to do.
Tamyra swore she wouldn’t cry when she steps on the podium to receive her hard-earned medal … but chances are, that’s one promise she won’t be able to keep. And we’re all okay with that.
- U.S. wrestler Tamyra Mensah-Stock erupted in a patriotic display after winning a gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
- She thanked God, and said she “freaking loves” living in America.
- It’s in stark contrast to the anti-American sentiments displayed by other athletes and “woke” politicians entering the Games.
