Former President Barack Obama remains a hero to many leftist civilians and politicos in America. But he also has plenty of critics, and this includes journalist Edward Isaac Dovere.
Dovere, a writer for The Atlantic and former chief Washington correspondent for Politico, just published a book, which gives us an inside look at D.C. politics during the 44th President’s reign.
And the Obamas really won’t like what’s in it.
Battle for the Soul: Inside the Democrats’ Campaign to Defeat Trump is a hard-hitting tell-all book, which unsurprisingly has Democrats all riled up.
But perhaps most controversial is the section about Obama and how he was a “parasite” on the Democratic Party. The label alone is bound to ruffle a lot of feathers in the Blue camp.
However, the author claims such a label is warranted: it’s because Barack Obama allegedly used the Democrat Party just to get reelected.
Via Fox News:
In a chapter entitled ‘Benign Neglect,’ Dovere writes that the section’s namesake is how Obama aides privately described his abandonment of the Democratic Party once in the White House.
‘Negligence’ might be more accurate.’
Dovere cites a few interesting numbers:
During Obama’s eight years in office, Democrats saw a “net loss of 947 state legislative seats, 63 House seats, 11 senators, and 13 governors.”
When Obama first got into the White House in 2008, the Democrat Party had a strong hold on D.C. They were very much in control (as they are here in 2020).
But it didn’t last: in 2010, Republicans took back the House majority, and in 2014 they got the Senate. Then of course, Donald Trump won the presidency in 2016.
Basically, Dovere argues that Obama wasn’t particularly interested in a Democratic bench:
Obama never built a Democratic bench and never cared to, aside from a few scattered candidates who interested him.
The author added that Obama “used the party structure as a host for his next campaign,” which just means he used the Party as a springboard to get reelected to a second term in Washington.
And by the time he got that second term, Dovere claims Obama “cared about what happened to the husk as much as any parasite does.”
In the end, Obama left the DNC with $2.4 million in leftover debt from his 2012 election, and the Red Wave had taken full effect.
That’s why Dovere argues that Obama really wasn’t good for the Democratic Party at all. And in fact, he only hurt it considerably during his eight years in D.C.
Of course, this is in stark contrast to how most Democrat voters view the 44th President. But it doesn’t change Dovere’s statistics, that’s for sure.
- A new tell-all book labels former President Barack Obama a “parasite” that drained the Democratic Party for his own ends.
- The author cites how much power Democrats lost in D.C. during Obama’s 8 years.
- He also claims that Obama “never built a Democratic bench and never cared to.”
