What’s Happening:

Democrats have dragged Barry Obama out of retirement to salvage their midterms. The former president will be doing some campaigning for struggling Democrats–who are facing tough re-election odds.

While out back in the public eye, Obama decided to do a little bit of lecturing against his party. The 44th president scolded Democrats for politicizing all corners of society, even calling them “buzzkills.”

But then he really let them have it.

“My family, my kids, work that gives me satisfaction, having fun. Hell, not being a buzzkill. And sometimes Democrats are,” Obama continued…

“Sometimes people just want to not feel as if they are walking on eggshells…

“I think where we get into trouble sometimes is where we try to suggest that some groups are more – because they historically have been victimized more – that somehow they have a status that’s different than other people and we’re going around scolding folks if they don’t use exactly the right phrase,” he explained. “Or that identity politics becomes the principle lens through which we view our various political challenges.”

Wow. That’s pretty rich, coming from a man who literally profited off of identity politics.

First off, what Obama says is very true. He criticizes his own party for forcing people to “walk on eggshells.”

He’s got a point. Democrats have become the woke mob who shuts down people’s entire careers for saying the wrong things.

Obama appears to be saying that Democrats need to lay off the “cancel culture” if they want to survive the midterms.

But you’ll have to forgive us for the many eye rolls we made when he said they need to lay off the identity politics.

He even said Democrats were wrong for propping up “some groups” over historical victimization. Barry seemed to suggest that it was wrong for Democrats to treat these groups as having a special “status” that is different from the rest of us.

Uh… what!? That has been the Democrats’ entire platform for decades. Identity politics are what propelled Obama into the White House.

He, in fact, is the president who made this kind of thinking popular. Obama profited off of the idea that minorities (as well as other groups) should enjoy special treatment.

It was his very words that helped create Black Lives Matter. Yet today, he is warning Democrats to stop it with the identity politics stuff.

The is a good reason he is saying this now when he benefited from this years ago. It’s because identity politics are no longer working.

It’s no longer an asset for Democrats to whine about this issue–when they can’t even stop inflation. And fewer voters are going to elect a candidate who tries to prop up gay or transgender groups–at the expense of families.

So, Biden is jumping off that bandwagon, after riding it for years.
