Hotly-Contested Swing Race Takes a Major Turn – Incumbent Sent Spinning After Debate in New York

What’s Happening:

The race for New York governor should have been a shoo-in for incumbent Democrat, Kathy Hochul. She replaced disgraced Gov. Andrew Cuomo. Honestly, even a trained monkey would have looked better after a failure like Andrew. Yet Hochul continued some of the worst policies of the previous administration, especially radical decisions that increased the crime wave.

Recently, experts have put the governor race in the “toss-up” category, signaling big problems from Hochul. She was even forced to debate her Republican rival, Lee Zeldin, who she previously tried to dismiss as an “extremist.” Zeldin did not pull any punches, going straight to Hochul’s biggest failures.

From Daily Wire:

When the duo were asking about crime in the state, Hochul promoted laws cracking down on gun rights and failed progressive policies.

A fiery Zeldin, in turn, ripped the Democrat… “Talk to the Asian American community and how it’s impacted them with the loss of lives, Jewish people targeted with raw, violent anti-Semitism on our streets — it just happened yet again,” the Republican continued. “We need to be talking about all of these other crimes, but instead, Kathy Hochul is busy patting herself on the back, job well done. No, actually.”

Woah. Zeldin blasted Hochul’s decisions that have rewarded criminals and increased crime on the streets. Hochul tried to take credit for her shockingly unconstitutional gun control law. Zeldin hit back, saying much of the recent crime did not involve guns. He went on to call for a special session of the state government to “overhaul” the cashless bail law and other “pro-criminal” laws.

It didn’t seem Hochul had much of a response. Zeldin didn’t let up, though.

From Daily Wire:

Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-NY) went after Governor Kathy Hochul (D-NY) during Tuesday night’s New York gubernatorial debate when the incumbent refused to name a single restriction on abortion she supports, and seemed to promote abortion after a woman’s sixth month of pregnancy.

Zeldin criticized Hochul, who claimed the state’s laws simply “codified” Roe v Wade. In reality, New York has shockingly expansive abortion provisions–even up to the moment of birth in some cases. Zeldin went after Hochul who seemed to “forget” which restrictions are actually enforced in the state.

From all appearances, Zeldin humiliated Hochul, who fell into the governor’s job and didn’t earn it. We can’t predict what will happen come Election Day, but Hochul better be feeling pretty nervous right about now.

Key Takeaways:

  • Republican Lee Zeldin blasted Gov. Hochul during their midterm debate.
  • Zeldin exposed Hochul’s pro-criminal decisions that have made New York less safe.
  • He also outed Hochul’s inability to name a single abortion restriction, despite what she claimed.
