This motivated the Washington Redskins to alter its name to “Commanders.” A group of Native Americans recently petitioned the team owner to restore the original name. These natives explained that the term celebrated brave warriors and was not derogatory. Now, the Commanders’ team president issued a response.

“It is not being considered. Period,” team president Jason Wright told a local radio station on Wednesday.
The comment comes after the nonprofit Native American Guardians Association (NAGA) recently started a petition to change the name back to the Redskins.
The Native American Guardians Association is a nonprofit dedicated to protecting and restoring Native Americans’ role in U.S. history and culture. It petitioned the Washington Commanders to restore its original name, “The Washington Redskins.” The team president told a local radio station that it would not consider the group’s request.
NAGA warned that the progressive movement washing over popular culture is erasing its mark on society. They wrote a letter to the football team, explaining that they once had a relationship with the native community. This went all the way back to the 1933 season when the team was the Boston Redskins.
