When Elon Musk speaks, people listen. And the billionaire let loose a tirade during an interview Wednesday afternoon in New York City.
Topping the subjects for Musk was his take on the 2024 presidential race and the caliber of candidates on both sides of the aisle. Musk is known for not holding back when it comes to his opinion of politicians, and he didn’t disappoint this week.
While the Democrat side of the 2024 election appears to be wrapped up by Joe Biden, Republican candidates are still trying to gain ground on former President Donald Trump who is comfortably ahead of the pack.
When Musk was asked who he might vote for next year, he sent the online news media cycle into a flurry overnight. His choices, and the reasons why, set the stage for a wild political election cycle. He stopped short of endorsements, but he made his thoughts clear.
Between Biden and Trump, one of the two is a no-go for Musk.
From The Daily Wire:
“I think I would not vote for Biden,” Musk said. “I’m not saying I’d vote for Trump but I mean this is definitely a difficult choice here.”
The interviewer then jumped to GOP candidates, specifically Nikki Haley, former ambassador and former South Carolina governor.
“No, I think that’s outrageous,” Musk responded. “I’m not gonna vote for some pro-censorship candidate like that. Nikki Haley, by the way, wants all social media names to be exposed, as you know.”
Musk has openly stood for free speech on social media and against efforts by private companies and the government from censoring speech online. He noted that government overreach and regulation of speech is a threat to the United States because it directly violates the First Amendment.
“The reason for the First Amendment for freedom of speech is because the people that immigrated to this country came from a place where there was not freedom of speech,” he said. “Because where they came from, if they said something they would be put in prison [or] something bad would happen to them.”
During the interview, Musk caused a worldwide media firestorm with his comments about advertisers boycotting X. Musk said he hopes big companies such as Disney, Paramount, NBCUniversal, Comcast, Lionsgate, and Warner Bros. Discovery stop advertising on his social media platform.
“If somebody’s gonna try to blackmail me with advertising, blackmail me with money, go f*** yourself. Go. F***. Yourself. Is that clear? I hope it is.”
Musk clearly knows how to get his point across within any media format.
Key Takeaways:
- Two candidates get a thumbs-down rating from Elon Musk.
