The liberal-leaning network MSNBC was left humiliated when Donald Trump came out victorious on Election Day. Indeed, liberal MSNBC hosts like Rachel Maddow and Lawrence O’Donnell spent months falsely portraying Kamala Harris as such a competent candidate that there was no way she could lose to Trump.
Then came Election Day, when Trump not only trounced Harris in the Electoral College but also in the popular vote. This put MSNBC in a bad spot, as it exposed the fact that their leftwing pundits are hopelessly out of touch with reality. How could viewers take anything that MSNBC reports seriously anymore when they were so wrong about this election?
Now, it appears that big changes could be coming MSNBC’s way. This is happening in the wake of Comcast green-lighting a $7 billion spinoff of NBCUniversal cable channels.
Variety:
The cable-news outlet could have to consider changing its name and familiar markings under a spin-off of the bulk of the cable assets of parent company Comcast, one of the nascent company’s new top executives suggested to an assemblage of MSNBC staffers Wednesday morning, according to two people familiar with the gathering.[NBCUniversal Media Group Chairman Mark] Lazarus told an audience that included Rachel Maddow, Chris Jansing and Katy Tur that he was not sure whether MSNBC would have to change its identity as part of the transaction, which will split the cable network and its business-news sibling CNBC from NBC News and NBCUniversal. If the two networks are no longer part of the NBC corporate entity, attendees wanted to know, will they still be able to carry marks that are part of their former home?
This has sent MSNBC hosts into panic mode, as MSNBC and CNBC regularly share reportage. Like other cable channels, however, MSNBC has faced major business challenges as of late.
Between the end of 2023 and the end of 2025, MSNBC is expected to lose approximately 10.5% of its subscribers. By the end of 2025, MSNBC could be down to an estimated average of 61.3 million viewers. This is down 68.5 million in 2023.
Making matters even worse, this was an election year. That’s typically a time that brings more viewers back to news channels between the previous and upcoming years. Unfortunately for MSNBC, however, they didn’t seem to get any boost this time around.
Fox Continues To Dominate
Meanwhile, over at Fox News, things are looking up! While MSNBC hemorrhages viewers, Fox News just commanded its highest share of the cable news audience in the history of the network.
From Fox News:
Fox News finished the week of November 11-17 with its highest share of the cable news audience among total day in the network’s 28-year history across multiple categories. As Fox News makes history, MSNBC posted its lowest-rated week in over 25 years in key categories as viewers continued to flee the network on the heels of President-elect Donald Trump’s victory over Vice President Kamala Harris.
It’s clear that viewers have lost all faith in a liberal network like MSNBC. On Election Day, Republicans won the presidency, the Senate, and the House. This was a clear referendum not only on the Democratic Party, but also on the woke liberal agenda that MSNBC has been pushing for years.
With this vote, the American people showed that they’ve had enough of the liberal media’s obsession with attacking Trump. In the end, the liberals at MSNBC have made their beds, and they’re going to have to lay in them.
Key Takeaways:
- Big changes may be coming for MSNBC.
- This comes after Comcast green-lit a $7 billion spinoff of NBCUniversal cable channels.
- While MSNBC hemorrhages viewers, Fox is doing better than ever.
