Donald Trump Goes After McConnell – Now He’s Telling Voters Mitch Should Be Ousted

What’s Happening:

For a few years, it looked like Mitch McConnell was a good ally to President Trump.

But as soon as the 2020 Election happened, it seems the senator showed his true colors.

He quickly denied Trump’s attempts at election integrity. Mitch even seemed supportive of the left’s second impeachment (although he voted to acquit).

McConnell went on to decry the former president on the Senate floor. He later wrote an article slamming him some more.

So, Trump is striking back.

From NY Post:

“The Republican Party can never again be respected or strong with political ‘leaders’ like Sen. Mitch McConnell at its helm,” Trump said in an emailed 626-word statement that all but declared political war on the Kentucky Republican…

“McConnell’s dedication to business as usual, status quo policies, together with his lack of political insight, wisdom, skill, and personality, has rapidly driven him from Majority Leader to Minority Leader, and it will only get worse,” Trump said.

Mitch McConnell apparently turned on Trump after he left office, slamming him both in speech and the written word.

After helping Trump reshape the federal courts with over 200 appointments, McConnell is now attacking the former president.

In response, Trump fired at him with both barrels. In a lengthy statement, Trump condemned McConnell’s leadership—putting the blame for the 2020 election losses on his shoulders.

He warned Senate Republicans that if they continue to follow Mitch as their leader, they will lose more and more in the future.

Trump branded McConnell essentially a member of the swamp, who is “dedicated” to the corrupt “status quo” of D.C. He also referenced McConnell’s family as a reason the man refuses to hold China accountable.

Several notable Republicans have tried to distance themselves, and the party, from Trump since the election. Even former allies like William Barr and Nikki Haley have appeared to throw Trump under the bus.

Do they really think the GOP can survive, if it turns on a former president? Do they think they will have careers, after trashing a president that got 75 million (real) votes?

Trump is calling on Republicans to reject McConnell. And it just might happen.

Key Takeaways:

  • Mitch McConnell turned on Trump in a speech and op-ed.
  • Trump fired back, calling on Senate Republicans to find a new leader.
  • McConnell worked with Trump to appoint over 200 federal judges.
