Out of all the strict Democrats that imposed heavy rules during the pandemic, perhaps most controversial was Michigan’s Whitmer.
Even as residents demanded to return to work, she extended lockdown orders, seemingly out of spite.
Now, she is responding by instating new restrictions on large gatherings.
But right after hitting the state with new orders, she defies them herself:
Hours after reinstating restrictions on gatherings in northern Michigan to combat the spread of COVID-19, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer spoke in front of 620 troops at Camp Grayling…
After the event, a spokesperson with the National Guard said there were fewer than 100 spectators and about 620 troops at the ceremony. That makes the total a gathering almost three times the cap for outdoor events outlined in Whitmer’s latest executive order.
Whitmer appeared at an event that hosts 620 troops and 100 spectators. The number of those gathered was three times the cap she set for outdoor events.
Much has been said of the usefulness of Democrat-mandated lockdowns. Many states have suffered significantly less with lower restrictions.
While blue states with heavier rules and even punishments continue to struggle to control the disease.
Even after months of controversy and panic, Gov. Whitmer’s leadership involves inflicting pain on residents while ignoring her own rules.
After two months of heavy lockdowns, many Democrat leaders ignored their own rules to encourage protests in May and June.
State health officials appeared to give these protests a pass, even as they did not “socially distance,” with many not wearing masks.
Subsequent “surges” in positive tests might have been the result of these Democrats relaxing rules just for protesters.
Yet now, these same leaders are resorting to heavy-handed rules, going as far as hitting Americans with fines, should they defy them.
But the governor of Michigan continues to suggest there is one set of rules for regular folks and another for Democrats and their allies.
Why wasn’t this event canceled if the threat was so great that she had to pass a new order? Why was Whitmer and those others safe, but not family gatherings, concerts, or political rallies?
- Whitmer of Michigan passed a new strict order limiting outdoor gatherings in the state.
- Soon after, she appeared at an event with 700 people, violating her own order.
- Whitmer has faced heavy criticism for her strict and painful COVID lockdowns.
