Donald Makes $18B Demand On Mexico: Oh, Yes You Will

One year into the Trump administration, many supporters are frustrated at the lack of a border wall.

Little has happened since Election Day to show that Trump is making good on that promise, but Democrats and Republicans are blocking the funds he needs to build it.

And of course, Trump’s oft-repeated promise has yet to be made true. The President vowed that Mexico will pay for the wall. If that’s the case, it should be up by now. But where are the Mexican funds?

The President doubled down on that vow recently. He made it clear that Mexico will pay for the wall.

From Daily Caller:

President Donald Trump redoubled a key campaign pledge Saturday saying Mexico will pay for his $18 billion proposed border wall.

Trump will request Congress appropriate approximately $18 billion to begin construction on the wall, attempting to fulfill a core campaign issue. The president also emphasized that he will insist on border wall funding in any potential deal to save deferred action for childhood arrivals program (DACA)…

Trump’s proposed wall will install fencing on 316 miles of the U.S.-Mexico border and bolster security along the other 407 miles. The $18 billion appropriation will also go towards hiring more border security agents.

Early in his first year, Trump said that—in order to get the wall built quickly—the U.S. would pay for the wall. Mexico would, in effect, reimburse us later. That has only halted progress on his biggest campaign promise. Entrenched insiders in D.C. have refused to fund the wall. Development of the massive barrier has stalled as a result.

Without support from Congress, there will be no wall. Even if Mexico can pay for it years from now, it seems almost impossible that Trump can get lawmakers to fulfill his vision.

2017 was plagued with setbacks, thanks to reluctant Republicans. Only at the very end of the year did they support the President by passing the tax bill. Will 2018 shape up to be the same? Many Congressmen and Senators are up for reelection. Democrats will use every trick in the book to take those seats. Unless Republicans can prove they support the President, they might not have jobs come November.

Will that mean progress on the wall? Will they be brave enough to support the President? They should be confident by now to know that he means what he says. There are various ways he can get Mexico to pay for the wall.

It only needs to be built.
