Melania Rips Democrats for Not Supporting the ‘Take it Down Act’

The internet is a dangerous place these days. Just ask any parent with a teenager. Between social media predators and cutting-edge AI technology, young women face unprecedented threats to their privacy and dignity.

While politicians love to grandstand about “protecting the children,” their actions rarely match their lofty rhetoric. Especially when it comes to certain politicians with a “D” next to their name.

First Lady Takes the Lead

First Lady Melania Trump made a rare Capitol Hill appearance Monday, advocating for crucial legislation to protect victims of “revenge porn” and AI-generated deepfake images.

The “Take it Down Act,” introduced by Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), would criminalize the distribution of non-consensual intimate imagery, including the increasingly prevalent AI-generated fake pornography.

From ‘The Daily Wire’:

“Addressing this issue is essential for fostering a safe and supportive environment for our young people,” Melania said during a panel discussion with victims of NCII. “I hope today’s roundtable builds awareness of the harm caused by non-consensual intimate imagery and eventually the approval of the ‘Take it Down Act’ in Congress.”

This marked Melania’s first solo public appearance since returning to the White House, reviving her “Be Best” anti-cyberbullying initiative from Trump’s first term.

The First Lady emphasized that the legislation supports her platform by providing “important legislation to safeguard our youth.”

Democrats Nowhere to Be Found

Despite the bipartisan nature of the bill, which was co-sponsored by Democratic Sen. Amy Klobuchar, Melania couldn’t help but notice the glaring absence of Democratic leaders at the roundtable discussion.

From ‘The Daily Wire’:

“I was heartened to learn that Sen. Cruz and Sen. Klobuchar [D-MN] unified to prioritize this fundamental matter,” Trump continued. “I must admit, however, I expected to see more Democrat leaders with us here today to address this serious issue. Surely, as adults we can prioritize America’s children ahead of partisan politics.”

Only one Democrat, Rep. Ro Khanna of California, bothered to show up for the roundtable.

Apparently, protecting young women from exploitation isn’t high on the Democratic priority list – despite their constant claims of being champions for women’s rights.

Too busy with DEI seminars and climate change hysteria to protect actual women from actual harm?

Bipartisan Bill Faces House Hurdle

The “Take it Down Act” already passed the Senate unanimously with a 100-0 vote in February – a rare display of bipartisan cooperation.
Yet the legislation has stalled in the House, where it needs to pass before reaching President Trump’s desk.

“In today’s AI-driven world, the threat of privacy breaches is alarmingly high,” Melania warned during the event. “As organizations harness the power of our data, the risk of unauthorized access and misuse of personal information escalates.”

House GOP leadership has pledged to make the legislation a priority, with House Energy and Commerce Chair Brett Guthrie (R-KY) promising to schedule a hearing in the coming weeks.

House Speaker Mike Johnson and Majority Leader Steve Scalise have also voiced their support.

“We are anxious to put it on the floor in the House and get it to President Trump’s desk for signature,” Johnson said at Monday’s event. “We’ve got to do what we can to stop this. I am a full supporter of it.”

A Continuation of “Be Best”

During President Trump’s first term, Melania introduced her “Be Best” initiative focused on making online platforms safer for young people. The “Take it Down Act” represents a natural continuation of that work.

“This bill would expressly recognize what is already federal law — that it is an illegal act of discrimination for a man to participate in a federally funded athletic program or activity designated for women or girls,” the Trump administration said in a statement supporting similar legislation.

The First Lady called on Congress to “prioritize the passage of the ‘Take it Down Act’ bill,” describing it as essential to address the “growing concerns of online safety” in an increasingly dangerous digital landscape.

Meanwhile, Democrats who claim to champion women’s safety were mysteriously absent. Actions speak louder than words – and their empty chairs spoke volumes.

Key Takeaways:

  • First Lady Melania Trump called out Democrats for skipping an important meeting on legislation to protect victims of revenge porn and AI-generated deepfakes.
  • The “Take it Down Act” passed the Senate unanimously but still needs House approval.
  • Despite claiming to champion women’s rights, Democrats were notably absent from the meeting, with only Rep. Ro Khanna attending.
