McConaughey Statement Shakes Up Texas Race – He Just Gave A Major Edge To Governor Abbott After Dropout

What’s Happening:

Last week, the media was all abuzz over a poll regarding the upcoming Texas governor’s race. They were hoping the incumbent, Republican Greg Abbott would have a tough reelection bid. And that hinged entirely on who would end up running against him.

We know that two-time failed candidate, Democrat Francis O’Rourke, is running. Given his track record (and radical, anti-Texas views) he is unlikely to win against Abbott. The left was pinning their hopes on one particular candidate, who could score a win, despite his liberal views.

But they just got the bad news.

From The Western Journal:

Actor Matthew McConaughey will not run for governor of Texas next year.

McConaughey made his announcement in a Twitter video posted Sunday night, ending months of buzz over whether he would enter the 2022 race…

“It is also a path that I am choosing not to take at this moment,” he said, leaving the door open for some political career in the future.

Democrats were hoping the likable and popular McConaughey would throw his hat into the ring and run for Texas governor. As a recognizable movie star and Texas fixture, perhaps he could have given Gov. Abbott a run for his money. But the actor shattered the left’s dreams when he announced he would not be running.

That means the most viable candidate Democrats have for the moment is a white guy that uses his nickname to convince voters he’s Latino. Ouch.

At the moment, he is polling 6 points behind Governor Abbott, and we don’t expect that to improve for him.

“Beto” O’Rourke has failed to make a mark in recent elections. He ran against Ted Cruz in 2018 and lost. He tried to run for president, bowing out to give Joe Biden a leg up. It was rumored Biden would make O’Rourke his gun control “czar,” but that never seemed to happen.

For Joe Biden not to want somebody? He must really be unimpressive.

When asked about his extreme gun control agenda, the man admitted his opinions haven’t changed. One of his top priorities is to outlaw AR-15s, calling them “weapons of war” and comparing them to AK-47s.

Of course, he plans on confiscating Texans’ firearms.

The man seems to have no idea what Texans care about. The rest of his policies would be just as radical as Joe Biden’s, a man who won fewer Texas districts than Hillary Clinton. O’Rourke just might be the worst person to run for Texas governor imaginable.

If Democrats were smart, they’d look for a moderate with an ounce of brains to primary against O’Rourke. Anyone’s got to be better than a man who once admitted to eating dirt for “healing purposes.”

But chances are, they’ll stick with the radical socialists.

Key Takeaways:

  • Matthew McConaughey announced he was not running for TX Governor.
  • Greg Abbott is running for reelection, perhaps against Democrat O’Rourke.
  • O’Rourke’s platform includes radical policies that gun confiscation.
