Boy, Biden can really pick ‘em, huh? The moderate who promised unity actually picked a cabinet member who might be the most divisive woman on Capitol Hill.
Neera Tanden, Biden’s pick for OMB head, has started fights with just about everyone in D.C. online. She even got a rebuke from Bernie Sanders, who reprimanded her for attacking himself and his allies.
Despite this, the Senate might have confirmed her, thanks to the Democrats’ sort-of majority.
But it turned out one moderate Democrat, who promised to be bipartisan, is turning the tables on everyone. Now, her appointment is in serious jeopardy.
From Daily Wire:
Two Senate committees have postponed Wednesday hearings with Neera Tanden, President Joe Biden’s pick to lead the Office of Management and Budget (OMB)…
Tanden’s nomination fell into trouble on Friday after Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) announced that he would not be backing her nomination to lead the OMB.
Several moderate senators, including Susan Collins and Mitt Romney, have signaled they would not support Tanden’s nomination.
But with the addition of Democrat Joe Manchin, Tanden’s fate is in serious doubt. Without total Democratic support, Biden’s pick will not be able to get confirmed.
On the heels of that news, the Senate postponed future hearings with Tanden. That could be a signal that they are not interested in questioning her anymore–and just might quickly vote to reject her.
Joe Biden seems totally unaware of the problems with his pick. The woman had a terrible reputation, posting nasty insults against Republicans and Democrats on Twitter.
You’d think a president would be paying attention to things like that, when selecting important leaders in his administration.
Instead, Joe Biden might have just pulled her name out of a hat. Or selected her, based on pressure from special interest groups.
Regardless of the reasoning, Biden’s selection shot herself in the foot. Her years of controversial tweets (thousands of which she tried deleting), might have doomed her job in D.C.
We’ll have to see if Biden bothers to respond to this news by withdrawing her name or picking someone else. If the Senate does reject her, he’ll have to start all over.
