Many people are looking to Democrat Joe Manchin for a needed check on Biden’s runaway Congress.
He failed to stop Biden’s $1.9 trillion relief bill from passing. But it’s possible he was just saving his ammo for more important fights.
Democrats are pushing to eliminate the one rule that keeps the Senate safe from majority rule. And they are trying to use reconciliation again to pass Biden’s second bloated spending bill.
But it looks like both Chuck and Joe are going to have a hard time thanks to this senator from West Virginia.
From Washington Examiner:
Sen. Joe Manchin gave Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer a stark warning about using a budget procedure to bypass the Senate filibuster and ram through major legislation with slim party-line votes…
“I simply do not believe budget reconciliation should replace regular order in the Senate.”
And here’s what he said on the filibuster, from NY Post:
West Virginia Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin has pledged that under “no circumstance” will he vote to eliminate the filibuster amid a push by his other members of his party to reform the rule.
In a recent op-ed written by the senator, Joe Manchin dashes the radical left’s hopes of ramming their agenda through Congress.
Manchin seems to be the only sane Democrat left in D.C. He criticized Chuck Schumer’s attempts to use reconciliation again to force Biden’s bogus “infrastructure” bill.
He simply stated that reconciliation should not be a replacement for “regular order.”
But the bigger fight over the filibuster has only heated up, as Manchin said under “no circumstances” will he vote to eliminate or weaken the rule.
Manchin says he wants bipartisanship and cooperation between Republicans and Democrats. He seems to be the only Democrat left in the Senate who feels that way.
Democrats in both chambers appear hellbent on forcing their agenda before Republicans have a chance of retaking Congress.
The idea of working with Republicans hasn’t seemed to even entered their minds, as they seek to cram more bloated spending through, and Manchin keeps pointing it out.
Manchin, however, appears to be putting his foot down. With the Senate split 50-50, Manchin wields tremendous power. Hopefully not even Schumer can move him.
Do you think Manchin should stand up to Biden and Schumer and protect the Senate?
- Joe Manchin opposed using reconciliation for “regular order,” as well as ending the filibuster.
- Manchin openly opposed another spending bill that is not bipartisan.
- He said under no circumstances will he support killing the filibuster.
