Landmark SCOTUS Case Backfires on Democrats – Primary Voter Turnout Just Cratered in the Deep Blue State of Illinois

What’s Happening:

Democrats claimed that the death of Roe would fire up their base just in time for the 2022 midterms. They assumed voters would overlook their two years of failure to elect the same politicians to power. You know, the ones that failed to codify Roe in the first place.

Well, polling proved otherwise. And the first elections have been held since the historic decision. And guess what?

From Fox News:

In the first elections since the Supreme Court’s consequential ruling overturning Roe v. Wade, Democratic participation in the primaries in Illinois, New York and elsewhere Tuesday was lower than previous midterm cycles…

In Illinois, over 1.3 million people voted in the Democratic gubernatorial primary in the 2018 midterm cycle. On Tuesday, 821,200 voted in the gubernatorial Democratic primaries, with an estimated 94% of the ballots counted. The difference reflects nearly 40% decline in turnout.

Democratic primary elections were held in blue states after the Roe overturning. Turnout was much lower than in previous years, especially in Illinois.

Back in 2018, over 1 million voters came out for the Democrats’ primary races. But this year, only 821,200 voted—a 40% drop.

These primaries were held after the Supreme Court overturned Roe, seemingly showing that voters aren’t being motivated by that decision.

That’s either because there are far fewer pro-choice voters on the left than Democrats thought. Or their tremendous failures over the last few years are more significant to voters than abortion.

The left tried to bank on the end of Roe as something that would fire up their voter base.

But when you locked down your state for over a year, shut down schools, tanked the economy, and drove gas prices up, you’re pretty much in the doghouse.

Why should voters support a Democrat who is promising to protect abortion when they can’t even get gas prices down?

Democrats gambled with Americans’ lives and livelihoods and are failing. The lack of enthusiasm for the primaries is proof enough that their chances in November are very bleak.

Polls already showed us that Democrats will lose to Republican candidates. And now, that seems to be coming true.

Key Takeaways:

  • Primaries in blue states saw low turnout, even after the Roe decision.
  • Democrats banked on Roe to be enough to drive voters to the polls.
  • It appears voters are more motivated by the economy than any other issue.
