It’s been a rough year for Jill Biden. She started 2024 hoping that the year would end with her husband securing her four more years of living in the White House.
Instead, Jill’s man was forced out of the race by his own party. This means she’s ending 2024 by packing her things and heading back to Delaware.
As Jill prepares to leave the White House forever, she has to watch Donald Trump put his Cabinet together. On Wednesday, Trump announced that Linda McMahon will be his Education secretary, dubbing her “Betsy DeVos 2.0.”
Let’s just say Jill didn’t take this well.
Indeed, she seems to have had a full meltdown through her teacher’s union, the National Education Association.
From Daily Mail:
NEA President Becky Pringle said McMahon would be a new version of DeVos.‘By selecting Linda McMahon, Donald Trump is showing that he could not care less about our students’ futures,’ Pringle said in a statement.
‘Rather than working to strengthen public schools, expand learning opportunities for students, and support educators, McMahon only mission is to eliminate the Department of Education and take away taxpayer dollars from public schools, where 90% of students – and 95% of students with disabilities – learn, and give them to unaccountable and discriminatory private schools.’
Jill has good reason to be bitter towards McMahon. The incoming education secretary is expected to undo many of the Joe Biden administration’s initiatives as soon as she takes over her role. This includes narrowing the Department of Education’s support of transgender athletes. Trump has also said that he is considering eliminating the Department of Education altogether. Only time will tell if that actually happens.
Jill’s Previous Comments
During Trump’s first term, Jill often spoke out against DeVos, who is a lifelong supporter of private schools and an opponent of the teachers’ unions. While campaigning for her husband in 2020, Jill pledged that they would “get rid of Betsy DeVos.”
“We’re going to have a secretary of Education who has been in the classroom,” she said at the time. “These are all things that I have personally seen and have been important to me as a teacher.”
Jill went on to rip into both Trump and DeVos for how they handled schools during the COVID pandemic.
“We are in Donald Trump’s America and there’s just so much chaos,” Jill lamented. “And I feel that, you know, educators don’t know what to do. Students don’t know what to do.”
Fast forward four more years, and there’s more chaos than we ever could have imagined in your husband’s America, Jill.
Despite what Jill and her union have to say, Trump is standing by McMahon.
“As Secretary of Education, Linda will fight tirelessly to expand ‘Choice’ to every State in America, and empower parents to make the best Education decisions for their families,” Trump said in a statement. He went on to describe McMahon as a “fierce advocate for Parents’ Rights.”
McMahon Responds
McMahon responded by saying that she is “committed to working tirelessly to ensure every student has access to a quality education.”
“I’ve witnessed the transformative power of education, both in the classroom and also in apprenticeship programs,” McMahon added. “I look forward to working collaboratively with students — educators — parents and communities to strengthen our educational system; ensuring every child regardless of their demographics is prepared for a bright future.”
Sounds like a good pick to lead the Education Department to us!
Sorry, Jill, but there’s simply nothing you can do about this one. In the end, your days of wielding any power over this country are over!
Key Takeaways:
- Jill Biden’s teacher’s union loses it over Trump’s education secretary pick.
- As Education Secretary, Linda McMahon will undo many of Biden’s initiatives.
