Hunter Biden’s misdemeanor tax charges have been dismissed by a federal judge in Delaware, an expected move after his “sweetheart” plea deal fell through last month during his first court appearance in the case.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) asked for the charges to be dismissed. This followed the dismissal of felony gun charges last month. Prosecutors are now free to file charges on all counts separately, and possibly in a different venue, such as California or Washington, D.C., on the tax charges.
In the motion to dismiss the tax charges, according to The Daily Wire, prosecutors stated the Hunter’s case will likely “not resolve short of a trial” and that plea negotiations were “at an impasse.” Federal prosecutors have confirmed that Hunter is still under federal investigation.
Hunter’s initial plea deal was criticized by Republicans as a “sweetheart” offer that did not hold Hunter accountable for crimes. Critics said anyone else accused by the DOJ of such crimes would be facing years in prison with no plea deals.
