It has been less than 12 hours since the President and First Lady tested positive for the coronavirus. But as expected, the reactions continue to pour in from across the nation.
Most are hoping Donald Trump and his wife Melania recover quickly, but there are a few who view this as unfortunate evidence — proof that Trump hasn’t done enough to stem the pandemic tide.
Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) is one such individual.
Tlaib, part of the liberal “Squad” and a freshman congresswoman, has often made her feelings about the President clear. She has called for his removal more than once in the past.
And now, after learning of the President’s positive test, Tlaib jumped on Twitter.
It wasn’t to send Trump her best wishes, however:
He still won't wear a mask.
He only cares about himself and his life, NOT those around him or the people he took an oath to protect.
Too many lives lost because of his deadly lies.
— Rashida Tlaib (@RashidaTlaib) October 2, 2020
Tlaib has called out Trump for not wearing a mask before, and she and other Democrat leaders have taken the President to task for his handling of the pandemic.
Democrats have also gone after Trump supporters and the President’s rallies. At these events, some fans refused to abide by the mask mandate and social distancing protocols.
This prompted plenty of backlash from the media as well, and Democrats like Tlaib have always pushed for more government support.
For instance, Tlaib introduced a proposal with Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.) to give Americans multiple payments of $2,000 each month during the duration of the epidemic.
And while both parties have agreed to renewing the $1,200 payment, the recent relief bill continues to stall.
As for Trump and the First Lady, it’s safe to say that most people hope the couple speedily recovers. As such, Tlaib’s comments may appear cold and even insulting during such trying times.
For the time being, the President and his wife will be in quarantine, and the media waits for future updates.
- Just after Donald Trump tested positive for coronavirus, “Squad” member Rashida Tlaib responded on Twitter.
- She condemned the President for not wearing a mask, and accused him of being responsible for many lost lives.
- Most leaders have sent their well wishes to Donald and Melania, which makes Tlaib’s reply seem all the more inappropriate.
