Come hell or high water, Democrats seem ready to deny any moves to enforce voter integrity.
They already claim voter ID laws deny Americans the ability to vote. You’d think they’d be more concerned with all the other things these ID-less Americans can’t do, but they only care about voting.
But Republicans believe stronger voter integrity laws are needed all over the country.
Texas, which has some of the strongest laws on the books, is trying to eliminate loopholes that could be exploited.
Democrats tried to stop the bill from being passed. But the governor is not having it.
From Fox News:
Texas Democrats walked out of the state House’s chamber just before midnight on Sunday to deny Republicans the quorum needed to hold a final vote on a controversial bill that would tighten voting laws in the state.
Gov. Greg Abbott, a Republican who supports the bill, said he will call for a special session. The bill has the support of Republicans in the state who see it as a common-sense approach to securing election integrity.
The new bill in question will eliminate drive-thru voting, 24-hour polling centers, give poll watchers greater power, and impose new requirements for mail-in ballots.
None of these rules would deny an American the right to vote, according to the authors. Yet Democrats stormed out of the chambers to deny the final vote.
Gov. Abbott, undeterred, said he will call for a special session to get the bill passed.
Voter integrity is the final line of defense against tyranny. If Democrats (or anyone else) can undermine our election integrity, all is lost.
If our elections cannot be protected, nothing will stop cheaters from gaming the system, making voting all but pointless.
But strong, common-sense laws that require voter ID and other measures can stop these people in their tracks.
Why would any lawmaker be against laws that ensure only registered voters are voting?
Unless, of course, Democrats want a situation that makes it easier to cheat?
I can’t say if all Democrats want election meddling or not, but it’s pretty suspicious that they’d go so far as to block a bill that addresses a few minor problems with voting.
Do they really care about minority voters? Or do they want election manipulation to be easier ?
