Democrats pledged to deliver $2,000 stimulus checks to Americans as soon as possible after winning control of the Senate with a pair of victories in Georgia’s runoff elections.
The move would make good on a promise that President-elect Joe Biden made to Georgia voters ahead of the runoff elections, which saw Democrats Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff win their respective races against incumbent GOP Sen. Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue, a Republican whose Senate term ended Sunday.
President Trump wanted larger checks for Americans, around $2,000. But Republicans under Mitch McConnell blocked this move—claiming to want to pass other reforms.
Some are saying that move by McConnell may have cost them the Senate—as Democratic voters came out in force to elect these two radical leftists with a promise of checks from Biden.
Now, with little resistance from conservatives, Democrats are poised to pass whatever bills they want for the foreseeable future.
