Hollywood was an iconic part of American culture for generations. People looked to the home of legends and heroes as a wondrous escape from day-to-day living.
This was all before Hollywood turned its nose up at the people who supported this fantasy land. Woke actors and directors decided they needed to tell America how to live instead of providing universally accepted productions.
Wokeness took over Hollywood, and the downfall of movieland began. Hollywood’s misfortune continued this week with the failure of one of the most prolific studios that funded leftist-leaning productions.
From Breitbart:
Left-wing billionaire Jeff Skoll’s woke film studio Participant is reportedly shutting down operations and eliminating most of its staff — the latest victim of Hollywood’s sharp downturn that has seen a bloodbath of layoffs and budget cuts.Participant, founded in 2004, often financed projects with social justice and globalist themes, including former Vice President Al Gore’s climate change documentary An Inconvenient Truth and its sequel. Other titles include the Obama’s Netflix documentary American Factory and the Ruth Bader Ginsburg doc RBG.
Skoll delivered the bad news to the studio’s staff of about 100 people on Tuesday. Most were set to lose their jobs with no new content development or production. A skeleton crew was set to remain to handle the studio’s library of more than 130 titles.
Participant was caught up in the industry revolution that changed the way content is “distributed and consumed,” according to a memo credited to Skoll. This tectonic shift sent movie productions straight to streaming services versus the past pathway to consumers that depended heavily on distribution through movie theaters. Specialty titles, like many from Participant, couldn’t leverage word-of-mouth support from consumers that helped create buzz during awards season.
Despite bankrolling two best-picture Oscar winners — Green Book and Spotlight – Participant couldn’t avoid the flip side of success as if suffered high-profile box office flops. These included the environmentally themed Dark Waters, starring Mark Ruffalo, and the Matt Damon thriller Stillwater.
Hollywood continues to reel from the shift in consumer preferences where Americans have walked away from theaters and cable television. Hollywood has suffered deep financial cuts as Americans continue to cancel their cable TV subscriptions, TV advertising dwindles further, and streaming losses push into the billions of dollars.
Writers and actors in Hollywood contributed to the downturn of the industry after going on strike last year. This decay from the inside also contributed to big studios such as Walt Disney Company, Paramount, Warner Bros. Discovery, and Amazon MGM slashing their employee numbers.
For those who miss the glamour days of the silver screen, the tears of Hollywood moguls watching their woke empire collapse delivers a fitting ending to a sad story of betrayal against the American consumer.
